Sway bar Question

I want to add a rear sway bar. 1)Where is a good place to get one? What years fit? 2) What would I need aside from the sway bar. It looks like it just bolts to the LCA's.Is that right?

any 94 up rear sway bar will work but i would get one from a 99 up gt or a 96 up cobra they are the same stiffness. I got mine from a 96 mystic cobra for 20 bucks just check a junk yard.

any sway bar from a 79+ mustang will fit. yes, the lca's have holes already drilled for you. you just need the bolts and the tightening clips to hold it in place

go to www.maximummotorsports.com and look at the rear sway bars, they are under rear end or something they have a list of the years and what each years settings are, the oem just bolts to the LCAs

just remember, you need an actual sway bar before you can get the adjustable one. dont go and buy any adjustable sway bar before you get your hands on a normal one.

goodntight works. there's no need for a locking washer either, and i've had mine on and off before and it's always held tight. make sure to get grade 8 bolts though, you don't want them breaking.

Well I got it yesterday, installed it today. Took about 15 mins or so(made me feel better about myself from doing the headers yesterday ) I would would highly recommend doing this. The car feels so much better, corners flater, and its a little more predictable.

Do I need to upgrade my stock front sway bar when getting a 99+ GT rear sway bar? Or are the front swaybar off a GT the same as what I have now? Thanks.

Im not sure, All I did was add a 2002 GT sway bar on the rear, and it made a big differance. Im sure an upgraded front sway bar would compliment the rear.

Ok that's mainly what I wanted to see, if you upgraded your front or not. But considering you didn't, and it still made a BIG difference, then I definately think it will be worth it. Especially considering I just ordered my springs, I think a $50 rear sway bar would be a nice compliment to this stage 1 of suspension mods.

Can anyone confirm if the stock V6 front swaybar is the same as the stock GT front swaybar?

I dont' think so, see if you can find that chart on MM, I couldn't find the thing, I had cobra front and rear bars on my V6 and had cobra front and rear on the GT, I don't have a rear bar on the GT any more, can't use one with the IRS, still have the Cobra front bar though.

Hey guys,

Will this work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33583&item=2466787062#ebayphotohosting Or not because the 03 Cobras have IRS?

I didnt' even think the IRS had a rear sway bar, now I am not so sure, this guy seems to have taken an IRS unit apart in a lot of pieces, not sure why he did that, maybe thinks he can sell it for more in pieces, lol.

this came up and jogged my memory on another forum. they are f 26 v6/ 27 gt... only one mm is not enough to care. don't worry about it. sink the money into some endlinks, hell i don't need mine. they are maximum motorsports for 1.5+" drop. it lowers your front sway so it's more level and has better leverage.

That is true, but the OD of the sway bar is not as critical as the inside thickness and the metal it is made of. The GT swaybar is quite a bit heavier than the V6 sway bar. But like Tire said it wont make for a great difference!!!

What's the main difference between the 98 GT swaybar and 99 GT swaybar? Is the 99+ that much better? Midwest can sell me a 98 GT's bar for $59 shipped, that's why I'm wondering.

Ok... I better just wait for a 99+ to popup on eBay. Don't want any unnecessary problems. Brent recommended junk yards, but the places here in the D.C. area are way overpriced. eBay is my friend in this case! lol

from 94-98 or 96-98 (i think the later) cobras had flawed rear sway bars and can break in half. honestly, it doesn't matter shahrum. i can get you a sway bar from a gt that will work just fine for about 20+shipping if you'll give me a few days to look.

I have a 97 Cobra front and rear sway bars and have heard nothing about this rear sway bar failure.

When I mentioned the problem Rick had with the 97 Cobra sway bar I did not mention it was the front sway bar he a had problem with

I have an older Cobra Front sway bar on my 99GT now though. The one you are talking bout I thought was bent, I couldn't get it to line up right at all. I forget what the year model of mine is now, but I think this one is actually a 95.

From what I've read if you put a stiffer swaybar on the rear than the front (which is what a GT bar would be compared to a V6 front sway) the car has a greater tendency to oversteer, which, in my opinoin, is WAY better than the understeer the V6 is setup with. The bigger the difference between the front and rear sway the more oversteer you can get. I love my setup. V6 front, 99+ rear. It's awesome. The quadshocks I welded in really help too.

You guys make me feel bad. I just ordered a pair of Steeda bars for my stang. Am I going over board? Is there such a thing? No don't think so, but if you guys are getting good results out of stock bars, why did I spend all the extra?

If you are getting matching front and rears you will not be going overboard!!! Unless you are getting some Mega sized bars
