So pissed right now...

Well upon reassembling my motor from blowing a head gasket I couldn't point where I needed to find TDC. On my damper it doesn't have a notch or anything it just has a number a couple marks and another number at the end and I couldn't find a mark on the timing chain cover. So I thought it would be a wonderful idea to stick a pen into #1 cylinder that was when it is out all the way then the piston would be at TDC. So I put it in start rotating and it goes farther it, so I go okay its not on the compression stroke, I turn the crank 180 degrees and the piston starts going up and CRACK. I hear the pen break. Now I have pieces of ****ING PEN in my cylinder #1. So anybody have an idea what would happen if I let the car run with pieces of pen in the first cylinder? And for god sakes can someone please help with finding the TDC before I set my car on fire because now I have to take the upper intake, head, rockers and pushrods all out again. And also I wont take offense to anyone that calls me names or calls me a ****ing idiot. :]

Re: So ****ing pissed right now...

The pieces will float around and score the walls and then get hot and melt and mess things up...that's best case. Worst case, it breaks something before the plastic melts by wedging and stuff pops. Not good either way.

Yeah things gotta come apart I use to stuff some tissue paper in #1 and when it came up it would blow the tissue out

try this once things are back together remove the number one spark plug, put your finger over the hole, then having someone bump the starter until you feel the compression on your fingertip. this should begin the compression stroke. then Slowly rotate the crank by hand until you see the notch on the crank pully line up with the TDC mark on the timing chain cover. This should put you at TDC on # 1 cylinder.

P.S.- Everyone screws up When I install the intake spacer one of the new Alignment pins when into the lower intake Had to fish that ***** out with a magnet

lol. gee thanks. Yea so I pulled the head off and got that plastic outta there. Now off to advanced to get another set of head bolts. I'm planning to get this running today. I have a day off and the entire day is going into this car. Thanks for the help guys i'll keep you updated if any of you care. Oh also, since I had the head off I did figure out that the middle marker between both of the numbers on the damper pulley in fact is TDC for #1. It's weird though it doesn't say "TDC" or anything of that nature. Its like the number 151, 8 notches and then it says like 355 or something. But the middle notch is actually TDC for #1. Now how much do I have to rotate the crank to get to the next cylinder in the firing order, which is #4?

Re: So ****ing pissed right now...

I thought the firing order was two cylinders at the same fine aka even fire.

Sorry Brent, frustration got the best of me. I dunno could be? I always thought it was one after another, i'm pretty sure the firing order is 1,4,2,5,3,6

Re: So pissed right now...

it is one after another, you can watch your valve train to see when the next piston in the firing order is all the way up, right when the exhaust valve starts to open...i think thats right...i always confuse myself on that

Re: So pissed right now...

Well I ended up doing it this way... Put one pushrod in at a time. Turn the crank until the pushrod starts to lift, put slight down pressure on the pushrod while still turning the crank until I feel it hit the bottom along with the lifter and thats it. Did that for each one, Their all torqued down now but this damn rain caught me.

Re: So pissed right now...

EGR? I have never messed with a 99+ but with my 96 there was only so many hoses that went into the upper intake.
