usually when it does this the side that it blinks real fast, the light is about to burn out. Is it just one side or both?

you got a bulb out. I got a 96 and it blinks noramlly, until a bulb goes out then it acts hyper.

Its perfectly normal for the 1996 models to do this.
Ford wanted to upgrade them. So they installed the Ford Motorsport Hyper Blinkers. Its to make your car look cooler and better. It also makes your car look like its faster.

lol, "is this normal" ur funny. bulb out my friend.

Bulb out on both sides? Turn blinker on, get out and check to see if there is a burned out bulb, check front and rear, then turn on the other side, check same.

odd....Could possibly be your flasher unit is going bad, not sure what else it could be, as long as they are all working and all blinking, wouldn't worry too much. Maybe trying to keep time to that hiphop, lol.

When my blinker was doing that I asked someone about it and they said it might be something like the timer in it is off or some crap. Found out tho it was definitely the burnt out light so there ya go.

My ex-girlfriend had this problem in her paseo, but we never fixed it. I would think that it is a resistor somewhere in the line, but who knows. Also, on your alpine, see if you can put it on autoscroll, unless you don't want that. On mine, forget what model, but has blue buttons, you have to select autoscroll for it to continue scrolling.

I would bet someone swapped out your flasher with a hyperblinker.

Mine was located under the driver side dash next to the stereo. Big yellow thing.

If you want to make it stock, and can confirm that it is the flasher and that your module is the same as mine, I'll give you my old one.

I was driving my das ford once and the blinker did the same. First the quick flashing was from the inside and then it started to do it on the outside too. Basically he was told that the bulb was dying out. With a quick change of the bulb it has never happened again

Just an experience I thought I should share

I just had a similar problem - it turned out to be the multi-functional switch that was causing the problem (after the bulb and flasher were tested, that's the last thing I checked). Lucky for me it was probably the most expensive possibility too.
