4.2L in the future for me

Whats the best way to do this? Cheapest way? Would I be better off finding a block and starting from scratch? I am getting a Upper and Lower from RGR (already bought the Upper and buying the lower when he gets moved in to his new place and back online.) There wont be a problem using those right? I dont think so but just wanting to make sure.. lower is mainly what I am worried about.

For heads what should I do? Will I need new pistons.

Basically I need a list of what I am going to need and places where i can get it. Sizing up the price and where I need to start. I want to go the route Justang took just stay single port.

Just find yourself a Junked F 150 v6 and buy the whole long block. You can stay single port, its been done already, but if you go dual port it will get you more hp. If you want single port, use your present heads and intakes and everything else from the F 150. You want to get this from one with low miles and a good engine, if you do that the only thing you should need will be gasket sets. Might as well get a set of ARP head studs, you can't reuse the stock headbolts at all.

The only reason for changing the pistons, and or rods, etc would be if you plan to supercharge or turbocharge this engine, then you would need forged pistons and rods, otherwise use the stock ones and a good new set of rings and bearings.

Hey Brent. With a 4.2 it comes with split ports. But a set of BV single port heads would be nice and they will flow much better than stock split ports. You will need a special cam from Robert to get more out of the 4.2. A big cam for a 3.8 is not so big for a 4.2. Like Rick said pistons will be fine unless you are going to get crazy with nitrous or supercharging. As far as 4.2 blocks look for something newer than 98. I know they had some problems with leaks in the 97-98 blocks.
