m112 Question

I'd like to know the bare minimum it will cost me to install an m112 on my 04 v6. What is EVERYTHING I'm going to need? Around how much is it going to cost me? I'm good at following directions, however I don't have much experience under the hood of a car (I change my own oil, thats about it), so could I install myself? I'd like to know everything there is to know about purchasing/installing an M112. Thanks!

I know a guy that sells kits. Different forum though. If someone can help from here... fantastic, but I can't personally answer that.

haha, I have a plan for that... In the spring, either Roush Stage 3 front bumper, or the Terminator front bumper...

of course I also have the Cobra R hood in mind

Re: m112 Question

Only sometimes.

You're going to be into this a good $2k in parts alone....and this is not something someone that only changes their oil should do.

Plus, for the cost, you might as well get something designed for your car like a vortech or something of that nature that won't be pushing blistering hot (200+ *) air into your motor...but we won't go down this route again.

The M112 is a nifty idea for the V6's to mimic their big brother...but if you're not going to be able to run an intercooler (which you can't with the M112 on a 6), you're just asking for problems.

We have a few threads on here claiming fact yet no data was ever posted to support those facts about this swap and why it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. However, here's food for thought...Ford pulls timing in a cobra when intake temps rise above 125*...yet these V6'ers are pushing 200+ * temps with this setup...doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Re: m112 Question

Understandable. I've been looking at Vortech's site, and I'm a little confused. Should I be looking at this or this. Obviously, if its the last one, there has to be more to it than just that, but the entire system in the first link seems to be excessive, considering its $1000+ more. I'm sorry I don't know much about this, but I'm trying to learn.

EDIT: Also, on the 'Vortech Systems' link, it says that it fits 94-00 3.8l 6 cyl. Will this also fit my 04? I'm slightly confused as to why they don't have my year.

In 00-01 there was a change in the intake style for the upper intake manifold of the 6'ers. That's probably the change they're referring to, in which case you should try to find a 01-04 kit.

yes, some SC produce a glorious whine. Some of them are pretty quiet. Turbo's also make pretty noises.

Re: m112 Question

$2800 for the kit, all you need is a tuner, guages, and dyno time.

The newest dyno from one of the guys in dallas is 330rwhp/309rwtq @ 7 psi on 93 octane, with 160* IAT's, with these mods;
90mm maf
jlt intake
cobra tb
m112
212/218 114lsa cam (EXTREMELY mild, can't even hear the lope in it)
39# injectors
ngk plugs ("7s")
focus pump
LTs
gutted highflow cats
2.5" tubing
original flow 40s
8.8"rear w/ 4.10s

I'm installing mine monday if my UPD shows up when it's supposed to.

Re: m112 Question

^^ not as high as expected but still very high temps from that blower. Good numbers regardless. That with meth injection or no? dont see it in the mod list.

Meth is useless in positive displacements unless injected after the compression takes place.

160* is still above where ford pulls 25% timing in the cobra....I wonder why they pull so much timing? Hmmm...

Re: m112 Question

hmm many cobalt owners run meth, maybe they dont know any better but they say they get some good temp drops from it with the M90~ they have.

Re: m112 Question

Well, when you think about the physics of it....

You cool the air. Then you compress the air. Compression causes heat. It's really a simply flow diagram.

When it first came out, cobra people swore by them. After a few months, and no one getting any substantial temp drops at all, they realized it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

You get the same kind of cooling effect driving on a cool day vs a 95* day.

Re: m112 Question

The v6 doesn't have the timing needed to run water/meth effectively, unfortunately. Yesterday I found out that somehow my k-member is bent, while getting my bumpsteer and cc plates installed, so now I have to order a new one. I really haven't budgetted for this, I was going to wait until march or so to order the MM complete kit with coil-overs.

Re: m112 Question

Talk to kyle...he still has his stock K-Member somewhere...he might let it go for real cheap or let it go completely.
