Built sixer or GT?

Well, I will be coming into some good money pretty soon, and i'll will be using a chunk of it on my automotive interest.

I plan on spending 10,000 in the late spring into the early summer.

I have an 03 v6 with a few small bolt-ons. Should i spend most of the ten if not all of it to completely build this car ~ engine - power adder, built engine, complete makeover of tranny/suspension, whatever i can get for ten grand?

Labor charges could be a serious factor, but i am good friends with someone who owns a service/body shop with all the tools/lifts, and he has offered to help if i need it ~ suspension/tranny

OR

should i purchase a 99-04 GT or 99/01 cobra and start modding one of them later on?

Now i know that it's ultimately up to me, but i want to know if all the work on the six would really be worth it...or would the performance gain not match the badassness of a 32valve dohc v8 (cobra)? which i would mod later on.

I sure some of you started with sixers and spent some serious time on them, and then upgraded to the big brother v8.

Re: Built sixer or GT?

I spent way too much money on my V6 when I had it. But...I enjoyed every second of it and wouldn't undo anything I did to that car. Up to you man...

Re: Built sixer or GT?

If you build your sixer, you'll be sitting towards to top of where you can get to power/performance wise after you dump 10k into it....and you will be only a little bit faster than a stockish GT and maybe about the same as a cobra.

However, if use that money to get the GT or CObra, you will be at the same level of performance but will be at the very bottom with no where to go but up.

MY suggestion is go to with the GT or CObra...leaning heavily towards the cobra as it will be the same performance in base trim as what that 10k would give you our of your 6. Then, down the road you can upgrade and build upon the peformance.

Re: Built sixer or GT?

dont spend 10k on a car unless thats just 10k you simply dont need and can dump off and not worry about. If you dont have that kind of money just sitting around save it lol... putting it in a car will not end up good and you will regret it.

Re: Built sixer or GT?

Take this from a man who bought a 05 v6 in Dec.04 and thought a V6 is good enough. i have now spent a total of 20 grand on the car, besides buying it in the least 3 years!! You will not be happy in the end, you will wish you had a v8 to build off.

you want to build on the biggest base you can! why keep building up a v6, youll end up like me, my car makes 350 rwhr, if i had a v8 it would make around 450. Trust me go for the v8 man. you wont regret it.

Re: Built sixer or GT?

Very true , I have definitely contemplated spending ten grand on a car, but I was recently in an accident where I almost died, so now I'm all about living day by day and doing what will make me happy. The ten grand is just a chunk, so I would definitely put away other money.

However, after listening to what you guys have said, I will probably buy the V8.
To me, the purpose of performance modifying is to have a car with great performance and power. That is easier to achieve with a V8 car rather than a V6 car. I will mildly mod my v6 to make it different from a stock one.
The sixer can be my daily driver while the v8 can be my project car.

Wrong...once you get where you "think" you feel is enough...you get bored and then want more.

Hehe, I figured that much. At least you can have that feeling while your *** is strapped in a 400hp supercharged rocket.

right on! go for it.

but venom is right....you ALWAYS want more. its an addiction. and you can say that wont be you all you want but in the end if your a real gear head youll be saying the same thing!

let us know what v8 you buy and take some pics for us!

Re: Built sixer or GT?

a v6, no matter how much money you put into it, will never match the v8 experience. get a gt (coming from a previous v6 owner).

Couldn't agree more. Just recently rode in my buddy's 01 GT again...the sound of the engine, the exhaust, the feel, (5-spd), my v6 just doesn't compare.

But, I do love my sixer...first car, bought it when I was 15, couldn't even drive the damn thing yet...and goddamn did the chicks like it And I could never get rid of it just because of the sonic blue. If the next mustang's a GT or terminator, it will definitely be in sonic blue.
