Re: synthetic oil ?

...it's not going to make a difference...but...I don't see any issues going with it.

And don't even get an oil debate going on here. Just run a motorcraft filter and whatever oil of your liking. Personally I stick with Mobil1 synthetic in the cobra and whatever is on sale in the 90...

Re: synthetic oil ?

as long as you change it regularly and use decent oil your good, synth is better overall but its not as much as the oil but how long you run it~

Re: synthetic oil ?

I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic with the gold cap. I used it in my Dirt bike for years and never had a problem. With regular oil the bike required to be changed every 15 hours of riding. The Full synthetic oil didn’t harm the wet clutch either. The bike had 12.5:1 Compression so I figure it should work great in the car. I heard Amsoil is good also.

Re: synthetic oil ?

dont see that this has been posted yet,

but switching from dino to synth might cause some leaks, do to the fact that the synth oil molecules are smaller then dino, and will leak out of places that dino will not. But if all your seals are good then this is not an issue.

more info about synth oil found here.

Re: synthetic oil ?

I use synthetic blend. Valvoline or Castrol doesn't really make a difference as long as the weight is correct for your car and you change it regularly. 103K on my clock and still running strong with No Engine/Tranny issues since day one back in early January 2002. Just didn't really see the purpose of using $5-7/quart oil in mine unless it was a track car and since it's a DD why waste the extra $?

Re: synthetic oil ?

if you really want to know how your oil is doing the only way to know is to have it checked, there are companies that do it for pretty cheap. They can tell you all sorts of interesting things.

Re: synthetic oil ?

20+ years ago when I had dohc drag bikes there was a big difference between dino and synthetic for top end lubrication, it made a believer of it. That’s about when Mobil One came out. Air cooled or not I would run synthetic with Fords filter and change it every 3K, these over head cam mod motor probably need it. I haven’t see it first hand yet with them, but I am new to mod motors and with the RPM’s I would rather be safe than sorry. People shouldn’t complain about the cost, if you can afford to run a performance car as a dd use synthetic, if not buy something cheaper to drive.

Re: synthetic oil ?

Ok this will be the last oil question I swear...Is Royal Purple fine to use on a stock motor? I noticed it says for high performance vehicles..so I wanted to ask yall before I decide to go do so, with it being daily driver...thanks alot and sorry for bringing this up again.

It won't hurt anything other than your wallet. It's really a waste of money. Just buy some Mobil 1 and forget about it.

Re: synthetic oil ?

the only thing I've ever heard is that you don't want to break in a new motor with synthetic so that it "wears in" correctly. I ran castrol syntec in my s10 for 116000 miles and never had any issues. ~5000 mile changes

Re: synthetic oil ?

ive read independent test results and royal purple and amsoil did the best over mobil 1 but overall... just buy what you feel good about and it wont make a huge difference. I use mobil 1 knowing this~ i just like it.

It is VERY rare but some have had issues when switching from mobil one to royal purple~ but take that with a grain of salt as.... you never really know if that was the issue or what.

Re: synthetic oil ?

The only problem i have found with Mobile 1 is that if you switch the motor tends to leak oil. It has happened on 2 of my cars.
