Question Exhaust 2004 V-6 Mustang

My car has a single muffler. I was wanting to put in an exhaust system. I was wondering if I put two mufflers, would I have to change the stock headers to see gains in performance? If I don't and I didn't change stock headers would I gain performance benefit of two mufflers or will the only change be the sound. I think it may not gain performance since the smoke is channeled directly through headers (with a diameter of whatever stock is) out through the end. Widening the diameter of the headers would facilitate the engine's output. So in order to see gains in performance do I have to change headers.

I was thinking of adding side exhaust, do you know any manufacturers other than Borla? I want my car to sound like its got balls in idle and especially accelerating and was afraid Borla wouldn't do it? Any suggestion of exhaust systems side or out the back?

if it was moved, it was probably so you will get better responses...

spintech has a good side exhaust.

I don't know why you were worried about Borla? They are often one of the good brands when talking about exhaust.

Ah I see. But I heard from a friend that Borla goes well with big engines V-8s and not so well with V-6. They say it'll be a quiet high quality sound but not loud like I want it. I don't want really loud like an off-road truck just sound big.

Well, I have heard a Borla cat back (not side exit) on a V6 and it sounded pretty good. Had a nice sound to it that was not ricey. The Borla exhaust for the V6 is one of the most expenisve kits out there. Dont know if your on a budget or not, but Borla and Spintech are two exhaust companies that make nice kits for the V6.

Open headers

j/k I would say it would depend on the mods you have. Id think the better part of us on here got duals for sound(could be wrong).being near stockyou might get a few hp/tq increase from duals but not much if anything.

thanks. I would imagine that the duals wouldnt do to much anyways, because are cars really dont do enough for duals to do to much anyways.

I am leaning towards spintech X off-road dual side exhaust. Can anyone tell me what the off road part means? They lifte my car at a muffler shop to check it out and I was trying to explain to them how I wanted the side exhaust, they said it out be tough cuz it would have to go below the subframe making it very low. I later found out from ford racings website and their version of side exhaust that side exhaust won't fit w/ the subframes it has. I'm thinking you gotta take them off or something. How are side exhaust setup? Do I need to make any alterations to my car in order to make it fit?

Off Road means that there are no cats on it so it is not legal to drive on the road with, basically for race use only. but if you don't have emissions tests in your area you should be ok. SIde exahust will go on fine. they don't clear aftermarket subframe connectors. thats what they are saying

Stock headers are fine unless you do serious engine mods dont spend needless money on headers. Stock V6 exhaust flow ok. You just want to have better sound and you dont need headers for that. Do not take your cats off unless you dont have car inspections because if you have car inspections you will fail, also the stock motor sounds like *** with O/R and no engine mods plus you wont really gain much H/P at all and you will also void the warranty on your car. There is very little gain with dual exhaust system on a stock motor maybe 2-3 hp but they sound a whole lot better and if you are going to do engine mods like heads, Cam and intakes it is a good beginning.

If your car is a convertible do not take off the Subframes you will really screw up the handling of the car and really weaken the frame since there is no roof to support the car like on a coupe.

I have side pipes, Dynomax mufflers and custom pipe work, I love the sound but watch how the pipe bends cause you will get a 'russhin" should at idle, if you want a sound clip i can get ya one.
