Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Im not married but im goin on a part time salary so its similar lol. Me and my brother (hes got a Subaru Wrx Sti running like 13.5 or something) were talking and he said it was a bad idea to supercharge a v6, "you should just turbo it" , I guess he thinks a v6 is to small to sc or something. But i said some can get fast. Then he brought up the Pontiac GTP (sc v6) and said they were slow. I said Grand Prix are pos but he said the beat 1999 - 2004 gt and that just pissed me all off. Am i right about a supercharged v6 and about gt's beating the GPT? Thanks guys i love to prove him wrong.

Nothing wrong with putting a superhcarger on a V6. Im gonna do it this spring and there are plenty of guys on this forum who have done same.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Nothing wrong with a supercharged v6, nothing wrong with a turbo v6. A 99-04 GT will smoke a GTP. Ive done it several times even when my car was stock.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

In your case you might wanna turbo it. It would be less work and modification.
But either way its your car.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Fair enough. Are you talking about the procharger style of the roots style blower.(like the Cobra).

If your talking procharger. I would say Vortec
If your talkng rotts style. I would say Eaton M112.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

i would look into procharger or vortech. i am personally going procharger. self lubercation (no tapping into the oil pan) and a front mount intercooler. however vortech is 50state street legal for your year Mustang.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Labor I am gonna do the install my self. I just have to take to a shop and have it dyno tuned. As far a supercharger parts well thats easy. I am just buying a kit so between 3500-4500 for brand new. Another reason to go Voretch is becuse they tune your ECU for your year Mustang. It does require you to send in your ECU but Vortech does all the work for you. It's part of their supercharger package.

Things to get done before supercharging would be headers, h/x-pipe and true dual exhaust. this will help the engine "breathe" better.

Headers: long tubes or shorties. well no doubt about it long tubes rule, but depending on local emission laws you may have to go with shorties.

H/X-Pipe for true dual exhaust. you can order them online or have your local muffler shop make you one.

True Dual Exhaust: you have some choices to make. chambered like a flowmaster or Cherry Bomb. Straight through like Borla or Magnaflow. this all personal choice and what you want your car to sound like. getting the H/X-pipe will give more options since now you can basicly buy just about any GT cat back system

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

He dont want me to make mods to my car. First because he thinks ill mess it up. Second he thinks that i want to go fast and race, i guess if i dont mod my car he thinks i wont race lol. And finally he thinks its only a six it would be a waste of time to mod.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Mess up your engine: ive never heard of dual exhaust being the cause of engine failure

Street Racing: Understand him from this point. If your gonna race find a track. its just as fun as doing it on the street, but no worries about cops pulling you over for being stupid. Plus you get a nice time slip for bragging rights.

Waste of Money: to lots of people it be waste of money even if it was a GT. this is battle you probably wont win. good luck.

If it was me I would just say hey i want to have dual pipes so it looks like and sounds like a GT. he might go for it. He might not. Your probably gonna end up gettinga V6 kit thats cool. its better then stock.

Last resort and this one will cause a fight. just by the kit and have it installed and hope for the best.

You can probably get away with a cold air intake. most people dont look under the hood

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Easy mods to keep "hidden" would be a tuner, shave a bit of unwanted weight, K&N Drop in filter, swap the stock muffler for something with more breathing room, port the stock TB or get a slightly larger one (wouldnt go bigger than the next size up till you really get the mods rolling), Short shifter if 5spd, clutch kit, light-weight fllywheel, Under-Drive Pullies, lowering springs (You can argue better handling/safety(stopping) if he notices, good tires always helps. Powers useless without traction. Good luck and enjoy your six. They take alot more abuse than I ever expected and can be made quick with a little work.

might get away with some shorty headers as long as they are not chrome or polished. I know that pace setters make black headers. but pace setters are cheep. they probably would be waste of money again this better then stock
