Yes and harder and faster. But you wouldnt get a shift kit. You would get a hand held tuner and comtrol your shifts that way.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Oh i thought they were different. And if i get a tuner, it does other stuff but one the things it does is rises the rev limiter, right? Well my car already almost hits red lining when I hammer it, so would it red line or would a tune not help.
Thanks

They are in some places. I wouldnt have the slightest idea on how to check if they are or not.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

The only downside the camaro is gonna have is weight. The stick shift will put its power down better and the GM V6 puts down more power per liter. Ill put my money on the camaro as Ive never driven the mustangs auto trans to get a feel for the shifts.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

^ I don't know about that. It has a first and second option but if you're not familiar to shifting, you can really mess up your tranny. If you miss D and hit N, your in for some real trouble. I'd leave the shifting to the car.

The camaro is about 300lbs heavier w/o a driver. 3306 vs 3070 curb weight.
The manual is tough to beat if he can shift it. The auto in the mustang is soggy and really just ****ty imo w/o a tune.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

camaro is faster, so dont try. The v6 is a 16.0 sec car in the quarter IF you run it good the camaro is a mid to low 15 second car~ just not in the cards... you will need major mods to take the camaro down.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Your best bet is to ditch a drag and make it a short sprint through some nice corners. This will put just about everything in your favor. Being longer and a bit lower it will be a little more tail happy so you should have the advantage through the corners plus you wont have to worry about shifting. Otherwise I think hell just run you down even if you get the jump. if you have a tach and know where to shift manually shifting the stang wont hurt it, but it doesnt help a whole lot either. If you want to try and you have a tac dont be afraid to shift it, just bump the shifter. Dont try power shifting it or like he^ said you may hit N and over-rev it. I used to do this with my Neon all the time. Either way good luck and let us know how it goes

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

For an auto leave it in Drive, it wont help you to manually shift it (as long as it wont shift till peak power (5250 for 99-00 and 5500 for 01+ even though the rpm shows redline at 5250 lol peak is made in 01+ at 5500 rpms)

The autos run faster if you don't manually shift them, tried this many times in my old car.

there isnt much skill with an auto, just point and shoot, the only advantage is reaction time if you can get off the line

It will cost you more in the end than it is probably worth. The thing to remember is that an auto can be made to shift nearly as quickly as a stick, but with MUCH better consistency. There is no driver error to be had. Like Brandon said, point and shoot. I would stick with the auto if that's what the car came with.

Thats one of the reasons i want a stick shift everyone laughs at me for having an auto. If I beat them I really cant say Im a better driver.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Eh, just tell them that some of the fastest stangs at the drag strip out there are autos. A well built auto tranny can't be touched by a manual tranny, no matter how good the driver, simply due to inconsistency. Besides, when i had to wake up at 5:00 in the morning for school and drive through towns, I was glad I didn't have drive stick.

Who cares what "everyone" thinks? As long as you are happy with the car, that's all that matters.

Re: My 99 v6 vs 99 v6 camaro

Throw a couple mods on it and you will be beating 6ers all day long.
By mods i mean- intake, pullies, exhaust, gears and a tune. You will fall in love with your car all over again.
