Where to go from here?

Alright well Ive been working closely with a former Ford Tech and hes made me an offer. He will either help me build my 3.8 to a 4.2 stroker with a procharger. Or he said he can help me swap in a 5.4l V8. Id really like to do the 5.4 swap to be a little more unique as I havent heard of many doing this for my gen mustang. What all would be needed to do the swap? What transmission ect. Or should I just see if I can dump the sixer and pick up a 5.0 fox body? its been a toss up for the last few months.

It will be much much easier and cheaper to do the 4.2

Re: Where to go from here?

Im not too concerned about cost as he said I can not only make payments, but he can get me a motor for $500 or less, and around 2700 for total install. So I just need to know what kind of transmission Id be looking for? Would I need to use the auto trans from the truck it comes in? The only car I know of that rocks one of these is the GT/GT40, and I dont think that transmission will work lol.

I would personally steer clear of under the table deals. You wont have a contract, he can just decide to stop working on your stuff after you pay him, he can half *** it and it will break and then he can say its your fault not his, he can lie to you and install the wrong things, basically its a bad deal anyway you look at it.

Re: Where to go from here?

He runs a legit business and Ive helped him do several motor swaps. He always includes a contract and reciepts for parts. He charged me $50 to replace a leaking caliper, and $25 to port my TB among other things hes done for free bc I help out. Believe me I wouldnt be working with him if I didnt trust him, or at least have a contract. When he had a parts car he offered a 4.6 swap for $1500 if I helped but I didnt want a 4.6.

Unless its in a very well written up contract and you do not pay with cash (credit card only) dont do it. You can if you wish as its your money... but ive been there and been burned when you never would have expected it.

You know all of those idiots on Judge Judy that say "well I trusted them" when she asked 'WTF were you thinking in not having a contract with these people"

Re: Where to go from here?

im doing a 5.4 swap and the motor itself is usually a good bit more than 500 dollars especially the 4 valve engine thats complete. its kinda an involved swap so id make sure u and him know what ya'll would be getting into before attempting it. imho, i think it would be alot easier to do the 4.2 and blower because u can reuse pretty much everything in the car.

Re: Where to go from here?

We wouldnt be getting a crate motor or anything. This would be a budget install with junkyard motor pulled from a truck, or a used motor from CJ Pony parts where he gets a discount from working with them. If you think the 4.6 would be a better swap then Ill wait till he gets another parts car and do this swap instead. I can use the same transmission, just have to swap bell-housings IIRC? Then Ill just need to get the computer/wiring harness correct?
