Sounds like it would be a perfect time to call a shop and ask them how much the install will be for you....

lol, that's what I was thinking... but I go to a college with 75 Automotive Technology students... someone should be able to help me out here... I'm good friends with 5 of the kids in that program. I know 3 of them could do the work. ok, and my rear axles will only fit with the GT differential?

an 8.8 install is very easy and straight forward...but ask brent little things come up that slow the install down alot.... usually its not a big deal if you have abs those c clips are a paint, other than that unless the tq boxes are messed up... and you have a rear end that does not clear the ABS sensor (grind time) you wont have to much of an issues. take a good day to do it along with a possible down time into the next day start early so the store's will still be open when you run into issues and need stuff.

ok, so this will be a weekend project, lol. That a-way, I can get to work when I need to still. I'm thinking about doing it all at the same time, which would probably add a day, but oh well, it'll be done, and amazing. Hopefully I can find a junkyard that'll sell me that stuff for like $200, maybe less if I give them mine after... and the lowering springs and shocks are a lot, like $800 total, but I guess that's the price to be paid. Maybe a good deal will come up next year and it'll make that more affordable. I still need rims, and P&P heads/intakes and a cam too.... so I'm looking at $2400 spent already. No computer, no shift kit, the computer's $400. Shift kit will hopefully be Christmas. I'm comin'... just give me some time. I'll be running with the medium dogs (not small, yet, not GT's)

i doubt you will get a full 8.8 for 200 bucks thats worth having... they charge out the butt... expect 300+ easy.... i would just buy a new one to do it right. shock/strut install with springs should take 3 hours~ of course things come up

No, he CANNOT bolt his axles up to a pre99 8.8. His axles are .75" on each side longer than the axle shafts and thus the bearings would be off and you would have no support for the main part of the axle (the head which holds the studs and the wheels )

If he had a pre99, then he could put his axles in, but since he has a 99+, then he has to use the axles that come with the rear end... be it a pre99 or 99+. If he buys a 4 lug rear then he has to buy pre99 axles to swap in there too. It is not worth it to buy pre99 on a 99+.

You're going to have to go the extra effort and find a 99+ GT (cant use cobra cause of the IRS) in order for it to be a direct swap.

and a tiny bit of info.... the 8.8 wasnt introduced until 1984... same time EFI was introduced.

there are only 14 bolts that hold the rear end on. I have done a couple in a parking lot. If you goto an automotive school, you should have acess to a lift, making it 10x easier.
There are 4 bolts (12pt..12mm) driveshaft bolts
4 total brake caliper bolts
2 shock bolts
2 upper control arm bolts
2 lower control arm bolts
and if you have a sway bar, 4 more.

really simple to do. Axles are a bit more complicated, but still easy. Ask me if you need help (although you shouldnt have to swap axles since you need a 99+ GT's

try it

there would be almost 1" on each side that would be un-supported. Not smart. People will put the pre99 axles with rear end in a 99+, and use wheel spacers, but not just the axles.

yes, but like I said... 84-98 had the same width. The axles are interchangable and the rear ends match up identically.

He has a 99+ which is 1.5" wider and thus pre99 axles will not fit in a 99+

I had a fox body rear in my old v6 with my axles reused and whatnot. I know it can work on pre99s, just not on 99+'s

ok, so Monkey, another question.... or to anyone. Will the junkyard be willing to cut me a deal if I give them my 7.5''?... plus, I didn't figure $200 would cover it. Not only that, but I don't know that I can get access to use the lift, which would be the problem. I'm not in the automotive program of the school... they are. I don't know if their teacher would be willing to let his lift be used for that.... without payment. which sucks, and now it's sleepy time

Nope.. everyone wants to upgrade to the 8.8. The 7.5 is almost useless to a junkyard. I tried several when I upgraded.

It's going to cost more than $200. Shipping alone is over $100. That's why you should look around you instead of shipping it. Just go look on corral.net, modularmustangs.com, stangnet.com,etc (all the big boards). Someone is always selling them, and there might be someone in your area.

You don't need a lift. I have done a couple in a parking lot with a jack and 2 jack stands. A little more time consuming, but still not difficult. Just jack the car up and set the stands on the frame rails and then proceed to unbolt everything and then insert the new rear end.

so no one would be in use of a 7.5" rear end? Not even a ricer looking to push 200 hp, hahahaha, ok, I had my fun.
