410 gear speedo question

In another post, someone mentioned a ERA thing from Abbott to correct the speedo and odometer issue. What is the ERA thing and where can I get one? All 3.8 mustangs deserve a 410.

i'm not sure where to buy a speedo gear, but are you 100% sure which one you need? go to v6power.com and go to tech or articles section and find the right speedo gear size there if you don't already know. sorry, i have 4.10s going in a 00 5 spd so i really don't know about 94-98's.

you can get the 23 tooth gear at Ford or GEF Racing or anyplace that sells gearsets. As for a a speed cal device on 94 98 they only work for 5 speeds

Check out the Steeda website.

They have all the gears, and which ones you need.

hmm i guess i should come on here more often huh?? hehe sorry guys.

to be perfectly honest, i do not know much about the speed cal and such products..i've always just bought the speedo gear(if applicable) and dealt with it being a tad off if that's the case.

all the mustangs i know of till 99 have a speedo gear, regardless of tranny..the autos however are limited by what speedo gears they can buy.

by looking at that speedcal, it looks like it replaces your stock sensor and reconnects to the wiring harness with something new..

eh, it's an alright idea for someone to try and make a buck if you ask me.
for a pre99 car i wouldn't even think about it because a 15dollar speedo gear will fix your problem most of the time within a 5% difference.

i can only see that being used on a 99+ if the person only wants to correct the speedo and doesn't want to bump redline, or remove top speed and the other benifits of a chip.

other than that i think it's a waste.

i had a 17tooth gear in my ranger that had 3.08s and i just put in 4.10s.
the speedo was off by more than 40mph...then i bought a 23 tooth today and now it's almost perfect..i haven't been able to tell acurately if it's dead on, but it's very close, which is more than fine for me.

if you want my honest opinion, and i'm not shooting anyone, or anything down, i would just go the normal route. these are simmilar to the companys that make the product you plug into your maf to "adjust" for different injectors...it's quite iffy. you shouldn't have to buy a special box just to calibrate your speedo when it can be done quite simply otherwise..

but just as monkey said...if you buy it and it works, that's great. just because i'm not going to take the risk on a product that hasn't been around really long, and i haven't heard much about, doesn't mean you don't have to..feel free to buy what you wish..it is your car after all

Installed 23 tooth gear today. Speedo seems to be accurate in the 20's. Between 30 and 50 it is about 6.4 fast and between 55 and 70 it is almost 10mph fast. Odometer still seems to be off. It may vary with speed also. Did not check. Engine still cuts out at 3k rpm. Damn chip.
