Odometer & trip meter

On the 94 & 95 Mustang ,if you take the speedometer, tach apart, on the back of the guage cluster at the bottom, you have the plastic gear case that drives the Odometer & trip meter. These gears wear out and break. Directly under the electric drive gear is a black gear that turns the numbers. Now for the problem, my black gear is broken. I need the enclosed gear case which is attached with three screws. ( Don't try to remove the gear itself, it will most likely break ) Help will be appreciated.

You should be able to hit up a junkyard and see if they have anything.

You also might check out these guys and see if they can help: MPS Auto Salvage

Worst comes to worst, you can just buy an entire instrument panel.

Re: Odometer & trip meter

This is a problem with most late model Fords. You should change both gears; there is a white worm gear that goes with the black one. Some aftermarket companies have made improvement of the material these gears were made out of. Here is a link where you can get them, $40. They have them for cheaper but be weary, I can’t the find the site that manufactures them, and they guarantee that the material they use will last. Good luck.

Re: Odometer & trip meter

Thanks Cobra GT. The site is Odometer Gears | 72 Croatan Road | Newport News, VA 23606 | 757.593.3478. Ordered as soon as I found them.
Junkyards, are not avery good source. I tried 5 clusters and couldn't find a good one. The ones I tried, were mushy and gooy. I think Ford should pay the bill.
