1993 Cobra

I might of found a "Barn yard" find because there is his older guy with a 1993 mustang for sale and he said it is a cobra. We didn't talk price but I wanted to know which letter or number on the VIN signifies it as a Cobra? I'm feelin lucky cause he really doesn't seem like he knows what he has.

Re: 1993 Cobra

there is a vin decoder here should tell you
Ford Mustang: Mustang Tech: Calculators & Decoders: 1979-1993 Fox Mustang VIN Decoder

"There are only two characters you need to know of a VIN to confirm if it's a '93 Cobra: the model year code (10th character) and the engine code (8th character).

P = 1993
D = 5.0L Cobra EFI 235 HP

If the engine code is anything other than D, it's not a Cobra. That goes for '93, '94, and '95 ('95 Cobra R's VIN's engine code is C)."

Re: 1993 Cobra

my buddy has a 93 cobra, he doesn't like the hatch... be wants a fox body with a trunk and a 5.0... (i don't know all the differences the fox bodys came in, but he says its lighter...) he's been trying to make a straight trade for it, but no one in the area seems interested. I really don't see the difference, but i don't really care for the body style personally.

64.5 to about 69 i guess and than 94+ are the ones i like

i would think a cobra is more of a collector thing, and i would be scared to modify one cause of the rare numbers, but it seems like everyone treats them as any other car and does whatever they choose... so even if it was a collectors, it comes with a nice 5.0 and a world class trans, wait, is it a manual or auto?

Re: 1993 Cobra

i think the cobra's only came with manuals. To me a cobra is just another mustang. you can always make it better/faster. But i've seen some in original condition sell for some major money if your looking for an investment, restoration project.

Re: 1993 Cobra

i guess i'm just weird about mod'ing things... i have no problem putting a helpless 94-98 body car into my plans of heavy modification, but if i was able to get my hands on a 03/04 cobra... the mods would be very very tiny, almost non existent...

Re: 1993 Cobra

the 93 cobra is not much different from the other gt/lx's of that year. If you plan to build a fox body changes are you will replace everything cobra related.

I would only buy it and worry with it if you plan to keep it like it was from the factory and enjoy it. I would LOVE to have a 93 cobra but the other fox bodies in that style are not very much different.

The 93 will be worth more in the end but you will have to pay more for it

Re: 1993 Cobra

its really up to you and what you wanna do. the buddy of mine that has one tore the thing apart, took out all the sound deadening stuff and replaced the upper and lower control arms, i think he replaced the head lights too, not sure if they were oem or not...

i guess for me it would be the condition of the car, if it looks new, i would probably just keep it really really clean and sell it to a collector later on, but if it wasn't that great i would probably do somethin else with it.

what exactly are you looking for in your next car? that might help make a decision...

Re: 1993 Cobra

Since I already have an auto and my old man will not let me drive his cobra Im looking for some sort of Ford or classic Mercury with a manual trans and a V8 that I can work on. That is what Im looking for in my next car. I have really ****ty luck when it comes to looking for an other car.

That's what they all say at first...then they feel the torque and realize they want more. I said 500 hp would be enough....but that only lasted a year or so.

If I had a 93 cobra I would have a hard time modding it. I would want to keep it as original as possible being the first year of SVT and all.

That said, I would love to get my hands on a 93 cobra when the time is right. Plus, it would be cool to have bookend years of cobra...the 93 parked next to my 03.

Re: 1993 Cobra

If you like it and think its worth it, go for it. On the other hand, you could probably pick up a normal fox body for cheaper and be at the same starting point... just depends on what you want i guess.

well i did read about people switching the s/c pulley to gain just a little, thats probably something i would do. It's kinda strange, if the car is nice and clean, i don't really wanna do anything to it, but if its beat up a little i don't mind modding the crap out of it :S (unless it was clean and i already had plans for it no matter what...)

Re: 1993 Cobra

If it's a real cobra buy it detail the crap out of it then turn around and resell it for 12+. Then buy something you have no problems modding.

Re: 1993 Cobra

from what I understand they are pretty underrated on HP, though nothing compared to the new cars it should move pretty well. though the only way they are worth anything is in original form.

What he said! And if it's not real, then offer him a little less and mod without reservations.
