Got in my first races with the cobra... holy ****!!

So I decided I wanted to go wash my car, so im driving down one of the main roads here in lawrence and I see an older 5.0 stang pull out and i let him get right in front of me... well we're sittin there at the light, me behind him and it turns green and i see him sort of get on it then just hit the throttle.. turns out theres a camaro SS 5 speed, unknown what year it was, but it was there. Anyway, the 5.0 eventually turned off on another street and I ended up behind the SS. The light goes, and i get on it slowly and move to the other lane so I can pass the SS and see if he'll bite. Well he does, he whips the car in my lane behind me and gets right on my ***. Well at that point we didnt get any stoplights, but after one of them he just darted into the other lane and flew by me before i had any time to downshift or anything so i start following him and we end up at an open area and he just hammers it. I try to hang with him but couldnt, look down and see my speedo and im doing 125 and this guys still pulling hard on me. I say screw it, and slow down then turn around to go back. Well the dude pulls a U turn when he sees I turned around and starts hauling *** to catch up with me. He eventually gets behind me again when I see a blue 05 GTO pull out of wal-mart parking lot right in front of me. Well I get in the other lane, and pull up next to him. We get a red light and i kinda rev it a little to see if hes up for it... turns out he is too. Im just sitting there at the light thinking "oh god oh god oh god oh god" cause I have no idea what to expect. Well the light turns, and I try to feather the clutch in first since the 4.10s allow no traction at all, and realize hes defanitely gettin on his car. At this point the SS is still behind me as Im running the GTO, and I mean right on my ***... well I stay even with the GTO guy all through first and START PULLING ON HIM!!! in second, powershift to 3rd and got a little bit more on him then had to shut down cause of traffic. His bumper was about at my door when I shut down and at that point im sitting there shaking cause of the rush... after that I couldnt even push the clutch down cause my leg was shaking so bad lol... It was freakin awesome, but that SS was insane fast, and I was really really impressed with how my car was up on that GTO... makes me VERY happy lol

awesome man! the best is picking on ricers...... just hammer it and dump the clutch to get the tires goin, they think they are badass b/c they are staying even with a 5.0 mustang, then your tires stop spinning 1/2 through 3rd and you just start pulling. lol, its fun.

the 125 run isnt actually correct, it has 4.10s and i havnt gotten a speedcal for it so it reads fast. I was at the point that i didnt want to go faster cause its not safe, so I slowed down. Also, no cars were within probably 3 miles ahead of me except him, and that distance was growing quite quickly lol

when i went to the track a couple months ago an 87 auto vette w/ nitrous ran a 14.0.......i thought it was going to be a little quicker than that. but again, that was the night of bad track prep so.........

Nice runs Mike --

The GTO is a nice car, but it is all name. The LS2 used in that car is the same one off of the vettes... however that car is a freakin' sled. It only has 400bhp and weighs around 4000lbs. Not an ideal race car, but still decently quick.

The SS, even if it had the LT1 (vs the LS1) you are dead on anything 80mph+. That is a top-end motor. Don't even try.

Oh well. good job. just put the spray in the cobra now. :thumbs2:

a speedcal is probably more expensive than a speedo gear, its just a touch harder to install

and a speedo gear with 4.10 gears still leaves your speedo off

Do things the right way or don't do them at all

aah i love that feeling. i get it right before a race if i have to wait at a light with my opponent, i get all tense. as soon as it goes green though, everything becomes clear and my focus is on what i am doing.

btw raced a 05 GT this weekend on the freeway from a 70-130. he started out in front of me, and guess he saw i was a eclipse and just took off(0 cars out at 1 in the morning on teh I-5), i downshifted from 5th to 3rd, by 90 i was already creeping up to him, shift to 4th, change lanes, get next to him, take 4th to 120ish where im already 2 cars ahead, then shift into 5th way before i have to(prolly at just 6k) and just keep pulling till 130ish.

i had the shakes all the way home, because i had finally succeeded in what i always wanted to do, take a 05 GT(cause i used to hate them, way back when).

the best gear you can get is what works with a 3.73... anything above that, and it doesnt fix in the tranny and wont work. ANYTHING above a 3.73 youll need a speedcal to fix completely. Trust me, i looked into the cheaper options when i did this the first time

who needs a speed-o-meter anyways. just drive the same speed as traffic. if you get on it its a blur till 90ish anyways, anything after that whats it matter how fast youre going, as long as youre winning.

see mike if you had the nitrous installed you couldve raped that SS alive. shoulda listened to me but no.

People that want their car to be functioning properly. Some people take extreme pride in the fact that their car is working 100% the way it should and that things read what they are suppose to

bah speedometers are only for looks anyways. real racers can tell how fast theyre going without looking down.

me and my buddies used to have contests where at random times the driver would cover up the speedometer and the passenger had to guess what speed they were going. i usually was right within 2-3 mph.

the only thing i would worry about with a messed up speedo, is the ecu seeing its speedlimiter way earlier than it really is.

manual drivers know more about what speed they are going due to they ACTUALLY shift the car... auto drivers are the suck. I like using my speedo myself, cruise control also OWNZ
