Distributorless ignition (DIS)

I've been thinking about converting my 5.0 to a distributor ignition system. Mostly to get rid of the distributor but also I think there might be better(stronger) spark as well as a few bucks saved from replacing caps and rotors. I was originally thinking of taking the system off of an explorer with a 5.0. I know i would need the coil packs, cam sensor, the timing ring on the crank. But I'm also thinking the explorers with this system are all OBDII and mine is not. What are the differences as far as sensors go? Could I pull the computer of an explorer also or would i need to have a custom tune done? I've been doing some searching but haven't found anything that really lays it out for me.

Am i crazy?

honestly, totally not worth it. if your mind is set on this, i can be of more assistance but i suggest just upgrading what you got (good coil, cap, etc..) and add an ignition box

I"m not totally set on it. Would like to hear your take on it and anything else you may know about doing it. If for no other reason just to know. Also what exactly does an ignition box do/help with over a stock setup?

I believe you would need the ecu to run those coil packs along with cam senser and you would need to run the knock sensers out of the exployer not a 100 persent though just thinking out loud.
