94 Mustang GT HP

I recently bought a 1994 Mustang GT, and i was wondering how much stock horsepower does it have? I read somewhere that it was only 215 but i found that hard to believe....

Re: 94 Mustang GT HP

215 at the engine, 17.5% less~ at the rear wheels. The engine peaks at like 4800 (not 100% sure) and the tq is 300ftlbs at the motor at around 3k rpms. You can look at the mustang history and see the specifications if brent ever gets them back up.

Re: 94 Mustang GT HP

ford never needed to up the performance to out sale them, and its all about the money. They are EXTREMLY easy to upgrade though and push 300hp.

The 5.0 they are using is the one that they have been using since 85 (mass air) or some year close to that, they just never invested much into it. The cobra version (heads/intake/cam) pushes 265hp/300tq~

Re: 94 Mustang GT HP

ford wasnt using mass air until 89 and some california 87-88's 85 was carbed. another downfall of the 94-95 5.0 is the stupid elbow onthe upper intake. but you are correct that it is 215hp@4800rpm and 300ft lbs@3000rpm

Re: 94 Mustang GT HP

you should decide how far down the rabbit hold you wish to go. If you would like to freshen up the motor and dont have to have it every day you could take it out and have a total rebuild and replace the heads/intakes/cam and any internals depending on what you wanted to do with the car.

Build it for a bit more than you expect you will ever need from it. Most do the basic bolt ons, exhaust, CAI, pulley, and other little things before they dive into the motor.

I would expect heads/cam/intakes to be the best increase other than a power adder. You should research the MANY MANY items available and go with the best for your needs. There are MANY brands of products out there for the 5.0 mustang they have a MASSIVE following for nearly everything.

What do you want to do with the car, your goals?

Re: 94 Mustang GT HP

my friend drives his 300hp 5.0 every day, they are fine to drive if you get them built nice. I would start with good regular upkeep and some bolt ons and save up and go from there after you do a good bit of reasearch to see what all is out there. Ask on the forums and we can help guild you towards upgrade you are thinking about.

Re: 94 Mustang GT HP

If it were me first of all i would do a complete tune up on the car if the mileage was high at all by this i mean plugs(autolites), wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter, change the oil if your not sure when it was changed last. When i got mine just doing that made a good diff on mine. Also and this is just me i would do exhaust. No matter what mufflers you really put on it your not gonna a big diff in sound and basically no perf increase with those stock cats on it. You could either get rid of them if your state allows or get hi flow ones but they are expensive. Cold air is ok if you can find one cheap they sell knockoff of the bbk ones on ebay for like 50 bucks otherwise just get a k and n drop in filter. The cheapest mod u can do for a nice kick in the pants is by far gears end of story. I felt just as much with my gears as i did when i swapped heads if not more. Our 94-95's are kinda pigs stock compared to the fox 5.0. I personally would recommend 3.73's. Compared to yours which are prolly 3.08's or god forbid 2.73's itll be a world of diff. Don't listen to the ppl saying oh no your gas mileage will go to the crapper thas bs my mileage changed none when i did mine. Alot of places will do it for 500 parts and labor. I would recommend gettin someone to do it myself unless your REALLY comfortable working on your car and have or can acquire the proper tools. I love the 94-95 cars they are great b/c you get the updated body style which means u don't have all the squeaks and rattles alot of fox's have plus u get the time tested 302 which is cheaper to mod an god knows if somethign ever goes out its easy to find.

Alot of it just depends on your goals for the car and how much money ur gonna drop on it. Do a lot of research thas what i did there are ppl all over this and other forums who are more than willing to help you. If you have any questions feel free to pm me anytime

Re: 94 Mustang GT HP

as far as squeaks go your right, but thats mainly due to a hatch or something else thats not found on the 94-95, in due time they will still develop in due time since your still on the same chasis so ha! muahaha

Re: 94 Mustang GT HP

I agree that the hatchs are usually the main cause of squeaks. Im not knocking fox's at all i love those cars. however, I think everyone would agree thats its ALOT harder to fnid a nice clean stock fox nowadays, and if you do they are way overpriced. You see these ppl put 89 LX 5.0 in the paper with 175k miles on them and still want ya know 5500-6000 bucks for it comon. IMO there are only 3 type of foxbodys that deserve to be overpriced those are the SVO (maybe), saleen fox's, and the cobra and the r models. Its crazy that a 93 cobra with the same miles will sell higher than a 98 cobra vert, but the fact is that car will continue to rise in value while every other cobra at least for a while will continue to decline.

Re: 94 Mustang GT HP

the fact a 93 cobra will sell the same as a 98 cobra vert is for the fact its the first year of the svt cobra and they didnt make as many as they do now per year. its a collectors car, all the cobras are now are just cars, see em everywhere.

woowoo for the 5.0 cobras

To give you an idea of power, my casr making 277hp at the wheels and 308tq It has the cobra intakes, ported heads, bolt ons, exhuast, and some other stuff. I could probably get it to 300rwhp with a nice tune
