New 5.0

Just got a 5.0 from a guy that got it out of a 91 Crown Vic. I am putting it in a 1966 Mustang in the near future and I was wondering if I should keep it EFI or switch it to a carb. The engine has to be rebuilt, would have to replace all supporting mods to the EFI, and I didnt get any of the wiring harnesses for the EFI. Keep in mind this is a budget build and any suggestions on how to build up the engine would be appreciated. I think my goal right now is about 500 HP

Re: New 5.0

If your on a budget I would go with the carb. Carb & intake, no sensors, maf, injectors, o2's, t/b's, or tune to worry with. If you decide to go efi the wiring you would need is minor. I have a friend who put one in a 50's model truck & it looks & runs like it came from the factory.

Carb MPG = 7 miles to the gallon
EFI MPG = 17 miles to the gallon
and gas isnt $.85 cents a gallon anymore

its not a DD spectorV, its just going to be a weekend car to have fun in.
Did you have any advice on the buildup? I found this article that shows the buildup to obtain 400 HP for about $1,000. Its really a good article to read up on if you are just learning about engines.
