Re: Which Mods

Shift Kit for your Automatic
Exhaust. Either Catted X Pipe or Off Road X Pipe... your choice of a catback
Rear End Gears are a poor mans supercharger. Throw some 4.10 gears in your rear and watch your car come ALIVE.

With 180,000 miles on your car I would change spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, transmission fluid.. just general maintenace stuff before getting too mod happy. If you have already done this then good.

Is it a valve body shift kit or one of those electrical ones

Re: Which Mods

I would start by making sure what you have is running top notch, a good tune up if you will. Then start the moding. I would change all the fluids in the car (all of them including power steering etc) and the plug wires every 60k and plugs every 30k~ etc etc.

Exhaust, gears, intakes, induction (CAI), pulleys, etc etc its a long list

Re: Which Mods

I've been informed on a three mod rule when it comes to quick power. Cam, gears, and intake. A decent intake can run $150-$300. Gears obviously is the quickest way to make your car get up to speed faster. Cam is probably the biggest thing to mod, pick a more aggressive cam. When you go with intake I suggest an edlebrok victor jr. with the air gap. The air gap is more for your RPM range.

Re: Which Mods

Heads are a good addition to a cam. Too wild of a cam on a low flowing head will not give you very good results for just a cam. So I have been told atleast

Re: Which Mods

I would change that rule for a 5.0L and say gears, exhaust, intake, with the intake being last. A cam is really not worth the money and install effort (IMHO) on a 5.0L with the stock heads. The stock 5.0L cam is actually a pretty good match to the stock heads.

First and foremost, I'd do a good tune-up. Spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, distributor rotor and cap, change coolant & tranny fluid, and so forth. All the mods in the world will be useless if the car isn't in good running condition.

For the gears, the norm seems to be 4.10s for an auto, unless you do a lot of highway driving in which case 3.73s might be better.

For exhaust, just pick whichever catback you think sounds best and match it up with either a H-pipe or X-pipe. If you can get away without cats, I'd recommend a Mac ProChamber which is a sort of cross between a H and X pipe. Headers will help a little, but the stock headers aren't bad. So if you're on a tight budget they may not be worth it.

For an intake, since you're going to be running stock heads/cam, I'd recommend either the FRPP Cobra intake or the Edelbrock Performer. The Trick Flow Street Heat isn't too bad either.

There are also a lot of little things you can do like underdrive pullies (I'd recommend to only use the crank pulley but that's just me), bump the timing a little (may need to run higher octane fuel), CAI, alternator upgrade w/ electric fan, etc. Of course, all these little things can quickly add up as far as cost goes.

There's really a lot of things you can do for more power, it's just a matter of how much you're willing to spend and how far you want to take it.

Re: Which Mods

Taking the cats off will def make it louder. I like the way a catless 5.0 sounds.

Re: Which Mods

Turn downs are louder than any tip you can put on there. Even if you already had tips though, going to a bigger tip won't really make it even louder. It'll just give it a deeper sound.

If you want it to be louder, get rid of the cats with a offroad H or X pipe (or the ProChamber I recommended above).

Yeah the Bullitt is loud w/o headers. The 91 is loud also. The only reason it has a b-cam though is bc it was in there when we got it. Sounds DAM good though with the equallength shorties, offroad x, and 40 series dumps.

bumbubmbumbumb.

Couldn't imagine how loud this guy wants his car though...
