Red face Tranny/Shifter Question answered...

I finally found out whats wrong with my tranny... I talked to a 5.0 man at auto zone, and got my answer. He told me the T-5 and T-45's have aluminum
clutch forks in the tranny, and over time slamming it into second or fourth the forks start to bend and in some cases they break. My second and fourth are so far back i have to hold it in gear, because the shifter hits the console.
He told me I should invest in another, and was wondering which one you all think i should invest in. I'm looking for at least a 600 horsepower capability.

Re: Tranny/Shifter Question answered...

I'm sorry about the error...I meant to say shift forks not clutch forks! The G-Force T-5 is exactly what I was looking at. Does it have the same problem the stock T-5 has? Such as the front bearing not staying lubed and starting to whine, etc. How reliable is it? I read its capable of 600hp which is a plus for me, and it only weighs 105lbs, any other info would be useful... preciate it!

Sounds like the shifter wasn't properly adjusted to allow the cracked shift fork.Yes it is common on abused T-5's

t-56s seem to hold up good to power, but... they have crappy ratios on the ford spec. Go with a viper spec its a better made t-56 anyway. It may be costly... but it will get the job done unless you want to go auto.

Re: Tranny/Shifter Question answered...

There is where i get all of my transmissions D&D Performance they are great to deal with and great customer service. I ordered my T56 from them and 2 days later it was here.
If i was going to put another tranny in it. I would go with the T56

Re: Tranny/Shifter Question answered...

Thanks for the input, I love this site... I'v done some researching and still cant make up my mind between the Viper T-56, and the G-force T-5. Would the 6 speed allow you to have a better top speed because of the extra gear?
What makes the 6 speed better than the five... I have tons more q's but I'll stop there for now.

You may have more top speed with the Viper spec trans providing that you have the horsepower to do it.If wind drag wasn't a factor then the answer would definately be yes.

A Viper Spec T-56 will handle a little more torque than the G-Force. However, the T-56 is also a good bit heavier. Also, the Viper T-56 will have a 6th gear ratio of .50, which is great for gas mileage on the interstate. It means you can throw in some 4.30 gears and still run a decent RPM going down the highway.

Personally, if I was building a mostly drag-oriented car, I would go with the G-Force, unless I was planning on making more (or right at) the recommended power level. For a nice street car, I'd rather have the T-56.

That sixth gear is nice for highway cruising. My roommate's camaro with 3.73's does just over 1500 rpms at 70 mph.

Re: Tranny/Shifter Question answered...

What do I need to set my car up for the viper spec T-56? I like the viper spec gear ratios better than the T-5.
