Faulty battery recharging system?

Today I was driving down the road and some of my electrical components (Radio, clock, etc.) just started to turn on and off. I turned off the radio and all other things that used power. I got home, but when I tried to start my car back, It just would not turn. I have a 95 GT, and haven't had this problem before.

I initially thought it was a dead battery, and It was discharged. I don't think that the battery is the root problem though. The alternator is less than two years old has yet to give me any problems. I have been reading and from what I can tell is that it may be the Voltage Regulator. I don't know if the regulator is internal on the alternator or external and hooked to the battery in some way.

Any help or suggestions would be awesome.

We need to get together sometime, I'll throw a meter on the alt and see what it's coming out with and check your pigtail and such.

Re: Faulty battery recharging system?

Well I had to get everything fixed before my finals in the morning. Sadly it WAS the alternator, or so I was told. With the help of my girlfriend's dad who lives close to starkville, we took the old alternator off and the bearings were pretty shot. Not only were the bearings shot, but the alternator's fuse had also failed.
All in all I spent 130 bucks for the new alternator and nothing for the installation. I drove it on the highway for about 15 mins to get the charge back up on the battery and made sure everything checked out with my lights, radio, and subwoofers turned up to put a drain on the electrical system. Nothing bad happened and all turned out well.

However, I will never go to Cliff's Car Care in Tupelo, MS. I not only bought my alternator, but my air compressor from him. My air is no longer working, and I had to install a new alternator in under 3 years of both being worked on. Just an FYI for anyone living in Northern MS and gets their car worked on.

Well I'm glad you got it fixed man, just sucks that's what it turned out being. Hopefully you'll be good to go. Now then...start coming out on tuesday nights around 8 at shipley's and hang out with the domestic crowd. lol.
