ignition problem on 94 5.0

my 94 gt 5.0 has an ignition problem. its started out as if it was the ignition controll module, i was driving and just like shutting the key off it died. after cooling down for a few hrs it would start again. so I replaced it. however now after driving it and shutting it off it wont restart untill it has cooled off as if something in the ingnition is overheating and needs to cool down in order to restart. my question for you guys is: what else other than the ICM can cause this what is my next option in terms of repairs?

note. the fuel pump is fine, it still primes up when I turn the key on..
Thanks for your help, you guys are great!!!

It still could be the icm. Surely sounds like it lol.

Did you use the proper heat resistant product between the icm and dis? It may have fried that one already, won't hurt to pull it off and have it checked.

Have you checked the coil? If it overheats it will do the same thing. Ohm the coil's primary and secondary and get me the ohms and I will look it up.

I have not checked the coil, I didnt realize it could have the same sympoms as the ICM. I dont know how to check the ohm on the coil. what do i need to do that?

Thanks

Re: ignition problem on 94 5.0

I believe i have excluded the ICM from the list of possibilities, when it was cool I tested with two of the ICMs to insure they both work. then when it wouldnt start after driving then shutting off i switched the ICM to the other one I confirmed earlier that worked and it still would not start however after sitting for 2 hrs it started again just fine....
so next in line would be?????? Coil????
what else can cause this problem with very similar results to the ICM?

Thanks guys!!!

Re: ignition problem on 94 5.0

well i believe i have fixed the problem, it was the distributer. it started smoking the electronics inside the distributer were overheating. I went ahead and changed the coil out too. so it has a new distributer, ICM, and coil. with all three of these new it better be fixed!

Thanks guys!
