The older models of alot of vehicles are a easy target.80's Montes, regals and cutlass are all easy because of the plastic steering colum, that could be they same for the fox bodies.Dont tell me your fox got swiped? Didnt you get that from your brother?

No it didn't get swiped but you must remember prevention is the key. Do something about it before it happens to you.
Yes I am taking care of this for my brother in the mean time I just wanted to find out more about this car.
I was told to keep this car locked up inside a garage because Mustang GT's get stolen alot as they are favorites for drag racers and people who like to swap parts do mods, the parts are interchangeable for these years.
I thought the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry were the worst hit.
I don't see many 1988 Mustang GT around which gets my attention and I notice other kids notice it more now.

Any car that I cared for would for sure go in the garage. Keep her locked up.

Question Re: Do these Fox body Mustang 5.0 cars have a high rate of theft?

Is this generation of 5.0 Fox body Mustangs stolen more than the Corvette equivalent of the same years or even the new Corvette?

It also depends on the area you are in. Here in Tx the most popular vehicle to be stolen is the F-150. Trucks in Tx are on the top of the list because they take them across the border and resell them.

I'd also take a look here:
Viper - Vehicle Crime
The data is a little outdated (c. 2007) but should still be a good indication of trend.

State wise the only Ford vehicle to make the top 10 list is the 1997 F150 for California. Honda and Toyota seems to fill out the list. I would expect that the reasons for this is similar to the reasons here in NY. They are very common cars, easy to break into, easy to hot wire and move, easy to dismantle, just to name a few reasons. I went to a police auction and they had car parts as some of the items. Most of the engines they had were Honda Vtec because these cars were stolen and brought to chop shops.

As for the fox body being targeted for drag racers I wouldn't entirely doubt it. I thought I've heard this once before but there aren't any strips out here so I can't confirm this.

Maybe the people that steal them drag race on the streets or do side shows.

Re: Do these Fox body Mustang 5.0 cars have a high rate of theft?

A lot of people initially think that fancy expensive cars are stolen the most - escalades, bmw's, newer foreign/domestic cars and trucks. But they forget how sophisticated newer cars are these days...electronics are built in to everything, and security/tracking devices make it a ***** to steal and turn around a car.

That's why mid 80's early 90's cars are making the list. While your fox body is much easier to steal than an S197, I doubt too many people will be jumping on it, it's sort of uncommon and easy to identify.

Besides if someone's trying to steal your ride, just shoot their ***

Just think how easy it is to steal a 65/66 Mustang? Now that's a very simple car.
