I've got a typhoon intake for sale soon i'll sell it cheap. MAO
I would not do a cam change without upgrading the heads first
the stock cam is actually a pretty decent design, most of the time I see people losing power swapping the cam without making huge changes in flow on the heads and intake... you could go with another cam if your interest would be to keep the powerband the same and maybe pick up a lil low end... but swaping the cam for topend isn't going to net you anything you'll end up with a cam thats designed to opperate at higher RPM's than your heads are capable of and in effect kill off all your low end with the cam trying to move everything up.
understand?

You do realize the gearing inside the trans all gets redone so teh ratios arent the same (look at that link Herb put up)

try to find a "race" oriented transmission place. I was lucky cause a buddy of mine works at one and he did up my trans. Just call and talk to them explain to them what idea you have on how you want the trans and about how much hp you plan on making. Trust me a good shop as long as you'll buy from them will help you out to what you need

Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am, Corvette, Impala SS, Mustang, Cobra, Truck, GTO | Here's another hint...avoid thunder racing like the plague unless you own an F-Body...they only deal with mustangs because they have to to stay alive these days. They treat you like **** if you roll up in a mustang...ask me, they blew me off for 3 hours while I waited for the dyno time I scheduled 3 weeks prior because a craparo was on the rollers that just showed up that day for race tuning.
Yeah, thunder sucks ass. I will get a list of shops from someone that cares about stangs...

Yeah, thunder sucks ass. I will get a list of shops from someone that cares about stangs... | That's why I said ask who would they trust to do transmission work..... Not ask them to do it.

I know 1 name they would throw out there that they outsource their mustang tuning work to because "they don't have time to tune mustangs"....and that shop is another POS shop in town...who only tunes by driving the car around with a laptop hooked up. No A/F monitoring. No dyno analysis...because afterall, dynos are not to be used as a tuning tool per them...and they are the proud owners of 5 blown up engines in town.
Therefore, I will talk with Stang-Hi performance here in town and ask them...they will know who to trust...assuming he can't do it himself.

If you are going to do something like that you are best in investing in something like the Holleysystemax kit, the Edelbrock performer kit, or the Trick Flow Track heat kit. The cams are specifically designed for the heads and intake that come with it and the kits also come with things like double roller timing chain to handle higher revs, better valvesprings to handle the lift/duration of the bigger cam. All of those kits run about 2200 bucks. I know its a wad of cash but it's a hell of a lot better than piecing parts together with mismatched cam.
