Re: Cam a stock 5.0

if you do a cam, do a head and intake swap at the same time... just a cam wont you net you much power since your heads wont flow much anyway

Chances are, the cam you get will simply bump the HP and torque curve up in the RPM range a bit, torque will be about the same, + or - 5 ft lbs, HP, due to slightly better efficiency at a higher RPM, you might see 10 HP or so (that's if you do nothing else...) Just my $.02...

That is the initial goal that he has. Since the 4.10's, he has lost top end power. He is trying to regain that.

Re: Cam a stock 5.0

im intrigued to know why you would be going with a C6 tranny

personally just do the h/c/i all at once then from there you can upgrade springs, rockers you know all the smaller things that needs to be done

Well, he wants more than 4 gears...and, well, the only thing that popped into my mind for a more than 4 gear auto was the C6...that I could remember anyhow. Could be wrong though...not up on cams nor autos.

EDIT: And well, making the assumption the 6 meant 6 speeds since the C4 is 4 speed...well...looks like I be wrong on that assumption. C6 = 3 speed? That blows. lol

EDIT2: Looks like maybe the Ford 6F transmission might be a good option...assuming you could get a bellhousing that will bolt up to the 5.0.

Im glad you owned yourself seriously I see nothing grand about the C6 unless the car is ONLY gonna be for drag racing.

im not a 100% sure when the transition went from AOD to AODE but why not find a shop near your area that deals with just transmission? I went and got my AOD done up real nice. and it was actually cheaper for me.

Didnt that new 6 speed auto just come out? isnt on the fusion? I dont see that tranny at all holding any type of power.

But who knows

Yes, and it is rumored that it, or a version of it, is going to go into the new F-series. Next F-150 will get 6-Speed Automatic - AutoWeek

And, like I said, he only wanted the C6 because he wants more than 4 gears and we both figured the 6 meant 6 speeds since the C4 is a 4 speed.

Well, I am basing the statement of it being a 5 speed on stuff kyle spews out all the time about auto transmissions...but, like I said, I am not an auto fan (think they are for girls :box: )

Guess I need to kill some more time looking up info again...

And, no, it won't just "bolt right up"...unless the bolt pattern on the bell housing matches that of a 5.0...which I doubt. However, making it fit would not be a massive undertaking to my knowledge...would just take an adaptor plate or something I believe.

EDIT: Verified 05+ auto is in fact 5 speeds.

Re: Cam a stock 5.0

The new 6 speed auto is in a transaxle configuration... won't bolt up in any way to a RWD car (unless it was AWD )

the 5 speed autos in the mustangs/etc are completely electronically controlled I also don't see any way you can adapt it to your car

Re: Cam a stock 5.0

I don't know why you would want a 5 or even a 6 speed automatic... They aren't very capable of high hp/tq applications.... More moving parts/clutchpacks/etc=more chance for breakage..... The C4 and C6 are both 3 speeds( I know the C6 has already been addressed). The C6 was used on the higher hp and bigger cube motors in the 67 area. The C4 was mostly mated up to the 302 and 289 depending on the models...

Basically the question is, what are your goals? What do you want the car to do? Autox car? Drag car? Aggressive street car?

*edit* What you are talking about doing is like trying to skin a live Bobcat with a plastic spoon that cost several thousand dollars....
