Re: 5 lug conversion

There are companies out there that make a conversion kit.

Or you can do it the junkyard way. 5 lug axles from a ranger and Sn95 front spindles. I'm sure there are more parts to it but those are the major parts.

Re: 5 lug conversion

You will need different brackets for the brakes. I just ordered mine from ebay.

Re: 5 lug conversion

my friend did it, you have to use the correct spindles and such else the center caps wont go back on etc etc. He used 94/95 GT spindles I believe. Not sure what else had had to do.

If I remember correctly the ranger axles are 28 spline which is what the GT's come with from the factory. The reason I said ranger axles is simply they are the same length.

Re: 5 lug conversion

I kinda figured. I'm guessing I would get one from a 4×4? And would it bolt right in?

Yes, I forgot to add you need the 94-95 Spindles.

Also, aren't you supposed to use two of the same side axles from a ranger? I think it's the passenger side axles. I know I have Ranger axles going in my swap but I thought they were both passenger side axles.

Driver's side Ranger, or passenger side Aerostar.

Red face Re: 5 lug conversion

I know this thread is from way back, but having done so myself if I were to re-do the 5-lug conversion on a fox I would order the custom made spindles just for that purpose...

I had used the ranger axle method and once I got around to putting cobra brakes on the rear of the car to replace the drums I had a heck of a time trying to source the retrofit rings to center the SN95 rear cobra hubs (GT has the same problem FYI)

I ended up welding 1/8" aluminum stock into a circle which works fine, but was a pita.

oh and for anyone considering using cobra brakes on the lighter fox, I can SERIOUSLY stop now!

Re: 5 lug conversion

I believe you can use 1/8" wall thickness tubing to make them, or get them from discbrakesrus.com, or possibly Factory 5.

Re: 5 lug conversion

Glad you guys bumped that. I never remember which axles out of the Ranger/Aerostar to use.

Re: 5 lug conversion

I would recommend using the cobra master cyl. and brake booster also. The bigger calipers will need more fluid than the old master can supply. Are you going to keep the drum setup in the rear? I would highly recommend swapping to disc. I have this setup on my 90 coupe and it stops well, almost too well.
