taillight question

hey guys,

So my little brother has a 93 notch and he has the clear taillight lenses. Well he had red l.e.d lights in it but they wern't really bright. And a cop stopped him and told him they were illegal. So now he had a fix it ticket but we cant find any bulbs that are actually red. Otherwise he has to buy new taillights. Does anybody have any solutions or know where you can actually buy a lightbulb thats red?

^^^^ This man knows his hip hop.

Sorry, but as I've told others in the past, it's a Mustang, not a Honda, leave the clear lenses to the import crowd.

I'm a huge fan of the 83-86 / 93 Cobra tail lenses personally. Best looking Fox lenses ever and they're not nearly as common as the LX lights

Re: taillight question

You can't go wrong with either the stock LX lights or the aforementioned 93 Cobra/83-86 style lights.

If God wanted a LX notch to have clear tail lights, he would have made them that way.

Re: taillight question

that bad thing is, no offense, but if that notch had stock tail lenses, i'd be drooling over it... cause besides that its pretty sick.

I think im gonna bite the bullet and do some light tint on my car, makes the notches look great. I need to get you guys some updated pictures of the car as well, looks alot different now.

Re: taillight question

wtf ever yall...those clear lenses look sweet. those lexus suv's have clear tail lights, those yuppies aren't gett'n swerved on by the fuzz. seriously though, if they shine red there should be no issue (proper brightness). im not in law enforcement anymore so i can't remember wut ohio revised code says about it. you should check your state law though, cause u would be surprised how many cops don't know d.o.t. regulations. they may in fact be legal with the proper bulbs. there are alot of cars from the factory with clear tail lights now days. we used to make traffic stops for tint violations, and now almost all suv's and ext cab truck come factory with tint that we would have pulled over just a few years ago...so go figure...check your state and federal dot regs for sure...cops aren't always right..of course if your bulbs don't illuminate red with proper intensity, u definatlely have problem...alot of states it is illegal to illuminate white in the rear if u r not going in reverse..every state is a lil differnt.

Re: taillight question

if they are legal, just print off a copy of the ordinance stating such, then the cops can't give you too much **** about it... if they do, just hand them a copy of the ordinance... and say "mmmkk have a nice day".

If you're talking about "altezza" styled lights (see pic below), yes, thos are legal because they have a red lense covering the bulb. However if a company releases a vehicle with something it's MUCH, MUCH different than you modifying your vehicle to have those same features, and sometimes against the law to do so.

Re: taillight question

yea, but the lexus i think "rx300?" have no red lense at all...it strictly a red bulb in a 100% clear housing..i double checked yesterday...anyway like i said..i don't carry ohio revised code book in my pocket anymore, and alot stuff has changed in the past five years...example...we didnt have color monitors in our cars...u were damn lucky if u had a monochrome m.d.t. "gold & black"...$5,000 a unit to put in our cruisers..wtf!!! now cops got laptops in their cruisers...and i thought i was the **** cause i was one of the first in the city to get the new "genesis radar" which was motion activated so radar detectors couldn't pick me up till i had a car clocked already...freak'n sweet!...im off subject, long story short i dunno bout the lenses...i just put black carbon fiber alteezas on my coupe...no clear..no chrome...

sorry notstock02 if I ragged on you a little to hard for those, everyone is intitled to their own opinion, and I hope your brother works something out...

I would personally resolder all the white led's with the same specificated red "leads"

I mean, its like the 05 mustang... in my opinion it looks like a beat dog, but my dad thinks its great :shrugs:

are they forward facing l.e.d's ? if so, may i suggest those new 360 degree l.e.d.'s the 360 degree led bulbs will reflect off of the mirrors in your tail light housing, making it appear like a "really bright" conventional bulb, instead of looking like a red dot in your tail light like the traditional l.e.d.'s...

as far as i know, any lighting that is not stock on the car with the exception of fog lights that are d.o.t. approved are illegal (at least in the state of new jersey)...red bulbs in clear tails will not get you through inspection here.

if a car comes stock from the factory with clear tail lights i.e. the lexus, then that is legal...but otherwise, i wouldn't do it

o really? i'm glad i don't live there then. we don't have inspection here, unless u r titleing an out-of-state vehicle...in which they only chech horn, turn signals, brake lights, and wipers...or if u r registering a self assembled vehicle..i.e. kit car, or car u u assembled and dont have title for..very easy in ohio..........i see the cuffs, r u law enforcment? u seem knowledable on new jersey law...or just a stanger that gets hasseled from time to time in which it is in your best interest to know a lil traffic law.

Stock looks better. And what are those thingies sticking out the back? Are those tips??? I haven't seen a foxbody with tips in YEARS. Dumped here, and if they weren't they'd turn down behind the axle.

To each his own I guess.....

Notch backs with a nice set of polished tips angled up a bit = the best... without them it doesn't look right from the back.
