Question shifting problem?

I just bought a 1992 mustang from a friend of mine and it shifts good when i drive it normally and when i get down on it from first to second, it sounds like the gears are grinding a lil bit. I drained the trans fluid to see if that would help but it didn't. I've asked around and people are sayin that i need to replace the sinkanizer( srry i can't spell it) can someone give me some helpfull advise?

Re: shifting problem?

yea sounds like the syncro is bad or going bad, you can rev a bit to help it ease in as the syncro is what lets you go into another gear easily vs rev matching since the gear is different in size.

Re: shifting problem?

well it requires removal and dismantling of the transmission so not easy but you can live with it for a while im sure~ reving it up to shift will help but it will take a little getting used to to find the sweet spot usually its not a ton of reving just a little.

Re: shifting problem?

Sounds like to many speed shifts or gear jamming has been done on that car. If you know someone that can fix it rebuild kits won't cost to much around $200 at most parts stores.

And it depends on the mechanic on how much labor cost are, I only charge $150-$200 to rebuild most five speed if the person buys the rebuild kit.

Hey double B sorry man but to save you anymore shame
the word is "SYCHRONIZER".There's a PRIMARY & a
SECONDARY sychro. It's sole purpose is to guide and hold shifter in gear under load.Again "no offense dude" just bein'
a friend.Don't know if they're costly, checked Summit but didn't see it.Go online and check it out,try typing in "gear sychronizer for 1992 mustang" and see what you get from
ur browser.
