Found an engine for the fox swap

Well, I found a deal on a motor today that I couldn't pass up. It's from a 94/95 car and comes with everything you see in the pictures. Although I was planning to build my own motor, I just couldn't pass this one up to move up the time line of the project after finding a pair of T5 trannies this week as well.

So, I've done my damage on the project to this point. All that is left to buy is a couple small items like accessories and then a clutch and manual pedal assembly. The big items are out of the way with the motor, trans, and GT40 intake which is also on it's way.

Here's the motor I picked up for $650 today...I'll post pics later of the 2 T5's I picked up for $200 earlier this week.

Engine is in town...going to pick it up tonight after work. Wiring harness should be here monday. GT40 intake will be here tuesday. Project is coming together nicely now. Just need to get a clutch and the manual pedal assembly and I should be able to put the motor in the fox.

Re: Found an engine for the fox swap

Indeed...looking forward to being able to post some build thread info. I was bidding on the pedal assembly this week but I don't want to pay of $50 for one. Seems everyone wants close to $100 for one with shipping...that of course is if you can find one for under $100. Once I get that I'll be all set because I won't need much of a clutch and can get a stocker style zoom clutch from vatozone for around $100.

This weekend I am building out the storage area of the car port in order to store the engine and trans's. I'm hoping to get the motor in the car by december.

Re: Found an engine for the fox swap

Well, the starter just blew on the 4 banger at lunch...at least I Think it's the starter at the moment. I think I am going to get an early start on this swap project as I can't bring myself to buy a new starter for it only to use it for a couple months while I wrap up buying the last few odds and ends for the swap.

Re: Found an engine for the fox swap

You can use the 5.0L starter it bolts right up.

as long as its auto to auto or manual to manual.

It's not.

The current car is auto....conversion will be to manual because I have the pile of **** A4L (I believe) auto that doesn't bolt up to the 5.0.

I did a parts search for starters as well, and the part numbers were different between the two....so...funk it. Time to park it, take out the motor, start prepping the engine bay for the swap (clean up, paint, etc) and just drive the cobra for the next month or two. Oh drats.

Re: Found an engine for the fox swap

Well if you use a auto starter for a 4 banger it will bolt to a auto 5.0L bellhousing or vise versa but the auto to manual won't work, different noses on the starter. I've done it several times even know they say it won't.

The engine was so complete, it's dumb not to. The only thing it was missing was the wiring harness and computer. Picked up a complete computer and injector harness for $80 and just need the computer and the motor will be ready to roll.

If I find an 8.8 for a decent price, it'll go in with the motor. Otherwise it'll come down the road.

Re: Found an engine for the fox swap

sounds pretty sweet, good luck to your build. hope there isn't many snafu's as I remember how difficult things can be in this project (make sure all the harness's are the same year as car body!) and finally,

are you doing any mods to start off with

I'm keeping it pretty basic for now. Anything I have to buy I will get an upgraded version. But I'm not replacing anything at this point with the exception of putting a gt40 upper and lower intake on.

The harness I have is from a 92. I'll make it work.

I'd say put about 6-8 lbs of turbo in front of it and you have a 400+ whp grocery getter
