Chip?

Is it worth the money to get a high performance chip installed on my 95 Mustang GT? Also what gear ratio would be best? And who installs gears around springfield mo?

Re: Chip?

instead of a chip buy a hand held tuner, I am not sure which all work for the 94/95 computer as its not as easy to tune those but... I would not buy a chip as a hand held if one can be used for your car would be better (easier to modify tunes etc)

You can't use a hand held tuner on the 94-95 gt's they're obd1. the v6's had obd2

Re: Chip?

I thought someone had developed some sort of tuner that would work? Not sure how it works though.

Chips r ok but work best with mods to help boost performance. Other wise they have little effect. Also if u drive every day 3.73 will wake it up a good bit 4.10 is a gas hog

Well a old friend runs a speed shop and said he might have one for free. I haven't talked to him yet just threw a mutual friend and wanted some honest opinions.

Re: Chip?

If you can get it cheap go for it! That way if you decide to put a turbo/supercharger or nos on it you will be half way setup for it.

Re: Chip?

I don't think so, I understand that PMS is easy to tune but its still a lappy deal.

Personally I ended up being really unhappy with my tweecer... I like working on the car (turning wrench type work) tuning this thing reminds me of being AT WORK.
im probably going to sell it soon and get a chip.

Re: Chip?

Hey 95GT go to (americanmuscle.com)and click on tuners.Under ur application will list a flashchip to put in place of ur stock P.R.O.M. (Programmable Read Only Memory)chip from a company called SCT,I believe it has multiple mode flash programs on the one chip that is controlled by a selector switch you install in place of ur GT's cigarette lighter element. Check it bud! O! I believe also that
if you go that route and need installation instructions AM has
them step by step on their website as well under tech intsall.

Don't waste ur money on a chip or tuner unless u have a lot of work done to the car already! Like cam, heads, grs, upper and lower intake, headres and full exhaust, full ignetion system... I wasted $250 on a chip even after I had so much done to my car like 2yrs back the dam thing didn't make any different. Now if u have a turbo, s/c, or nos that's a different story and u def need a tune for that. For grs I woukd def go with 373 for daily drive

Good to talk to you again dude

but to answer your question I couldn't say, my car is running such "strange" mods that the car won't run without the tune so I have really nothing to compare it too... but I have been VERY conservative on the timing in that car just in case something goes nil at high RPM and 10.6:1 compression

soo... I think a professional tune would net better performance if for that reason alone

good to talk to u too. i was just curious. i haven't felt it would help me out with my set-up at this point. and run'n under 14psi of boost on stock heads, it just doesnt seem necessary.
