X-Pipe or H-Pipe?

I have an '88 LX 5.0. Can't decide which exhaust system. What are the pro's & con's of each?

Re: X-Pipe or H-Pipe?

Yah I've always been partial to h-pipes on the 5 liter fox bodies...paired with some chambered mufflers and long tubes...

H sounds better and the power gains to be had on x pipes isn't noticeable. A couple hp at best.

The x pipe was a lil to raspy and high pitched for me. I like the rumble of the old fox bodies. But the 4.6 just can't mimic it. My first exhaust mod was to cut out the mufflers and weld a bent pipe in. Now THAT was raspy. Ouch. So I put a cheap pair of cherry bomb resonators and that helped the snap and kinda turned it to a rumble. And pulled better from about 3000 up. I was thinking of custom bending a 3 inch up myself this summer. I have access to a machine shop my cousin owns but headers on our cars are a ***** to put on. Anything less than long tubes aren't a noticeable improvement over stock.

you aren't lieing. me and my friend tried replacing a clutch on a 96 cobra with long tubes. wtf!!!. and we had a lift. i could just imagine wut its like at home on jack stands. sooo, do u have something against actual mufflers, or just like make'n your own pipe? i cant comment on sound quality wit a mod motor cause ive never owned one, so i will just have to take your opinion on it.

You gotta pull the motor or disassemble the front suspention. Agony. I said forget it. It's not worth the money for 20 hp

Re: X-Pipe or H-Pipe?

Headers does not require yanking the motor. Easiest access is through lowering of the K member. Headers really weren't tough on the few I've done. Also, it's always to do those in combination with a clutch, tubular k member or something as you can save time on labor overlap.

EDIT: meant to put Weren't not Were

everette didnt say anything out the way. i thought he was respectful in his opinion. i chose x pipe cause u get more than 2 xtra hp out of it with a blower.. and before i got it, a couple ppl told me the "raspiness" reminded them of a ferrari...so naturaly i was all over it who doesnt like a ferrari...right? anyway, if you wanna c sum "less than respectful" comments. read the "undercover cop mustang" thread in general car discussions -sub forums. sum ppl here showed their true colors.
