Re: 1500

yea gears are a great bang for the buck. A good set of heads/intakes/cam would be nice but you wont find it for 1500.

I'm not sure hp wise but one of my old cars had 3.73 gears, stock heads, cold air kit, 73 mm air meter, 65mm tb, exhaust, stock cam and intake, with some cheap 245 45 17 tires and it would run consistent 13.80's speed shifting at 5500 and launching at 1200rpm so it would hook up.

Re: 1500

im no expert on fox bodies and I am sure someone can chime in here, you can probably find some GT40 alum heads and maybe a nice knock off brand edlebrock intake set with a custom cam

The right thing to do is either hci or gear. In your price range I don't think you will get to far on hci but you might be able to get a set if afr's a good comp cam and grab a gt40 intake off an explorer in a junkyard. Then you can always upgrade later.or you could get some gt40 heads and intake off an explorer, grab a trick flow cam and still do the gear and stay in budget. Depends on how much you plan to do yourself. Don't tune yet, it isn't necessary. I would probably do the afr heads a comp can and the gt40 intake and save up for the gear. You can grab the injectors off the exploder as well, just don't install them until you are ready to tune. Once all of this is done you will eventually need a decent sized throttle body and maf.

Get the new Edelbrock E-street aluminum heads with cam, for around $900 it's the best out there brand new for what you wanna spend !! Google them (SBF edelbrock e-street heads ) and if so make sure you get the ones with 1.90 runners because you have stock pistons !

Um I doubt it. I have broken them on nearly stock motors with some traction. If you plant to build a 5.0 an aftermarket transmission is a reality unless you go auto. You can get 3550's kind of cheap now.

You can get used 3550's In the $ 1000 range. I believe they are ratedto 400 or 450. Or tko but you are goin to spend a lot more.

I would hold off on the trans a wile though cause you can get away with the t5a little longer if you drive it right. Definitely lift for third.

Re: 1500

i think you should find someone hard up for cash with a blower (still installed on car so u know it works). bar none...it's the most bang for your buck..right up there with a gear set. if i had it to do over again.. i would bought boost first, then all the other crap second. but on the otherhand, it's not always a good idea to go boost till u learn a bit bout the rest of the car.
