Police interceptor?

Hey everyone Im new here and love it so far. I just bought a 84 fox that has been rebuilt. The guy I'm bought it from claims that it has a rebuilt police interceptor motor in it, does anyone know how to find out if it is one for sure. Any help would be great

Re: Police interceptor?

Im not sure what is differnet on the SSP mustangs motor wise~ they might have forged pistons or something, but other fox bodies also had those. If you can track down the block number you may be able to get somewhere with it. I doubt it has much more power than the regular ones~ see if it has markings on the heads to see if they are different, but I doubt they will be.

Cool looking fox in your pic, I had a 79 that looked dead on that. Man I miss that car.

I will ask my friend, Susan, and get back to you. She has an old fox highway patrol car.

The only difference in the ssp cars is an oil cooler and I think a bigger alternator. All the foxes up to 92 had forged pistons. It could be a rebuilt ssp motor but that doesn't make it anything special.

o yea, and dont forget bout the special heavy duty hoses...lol. there's nothing special about an ssp motor. if it's not a 351, it's not worth talkn bout. ive had 2 in my stang, and one in my tbird. they're just 302's

Re: Police interceptor?

ssp stangs had no more power, only bigger alternator and better cooling abilities, also only late 86-92 stangs have forged pistons, before then is cast and after then is hypereutectic

however, it sounds impressive to say u got an interceptor to ppl that dont know much bout cars. i used to have the intake plaque that said "5.0 interceptor" i popd the hood on my tbird and ppl were like, "wow".

i even got another one over the running horse in my dash. wonder if it'll fit my 97...hmm. i think i can get it off wit a heat gun maybe..
