Do some research. I don't know off the top of my head but some of them have gt40 heads and some had gt40p heads. If I remember correctly the p heads won't work because it requires different headers. They do have a cast gt40 upper and lower. Also 24lb injectors. Just don't pay too much $ 200/250 for the heads $ 100 tops for the intake although that is high. I wouldn't pay a whole lot more than $ 70. The throttle body and mass air may be larger as well but I don't remember.

Alright, you could use the computer and harness to convert to mass air but keep in mind those things had coil packs instead of tfi. I'm sure you could still convert everything over and it would be kinda cool. Pretty sure there is a tone ring in the dampener for crank position and I know there is a cam position sensor that drops where the distributor would be. If you went this route you could use the injectors and maf without a tune. Can't remember if the pcm is in the kick panel oz the exploder or not, might be some harness length issues. Yes it has 24lb injectors. I believe those exploders were rated around 260/270so not a bad upgrade. I hope I answered all of your questions.

There's you're answer. I haven't done it, I had just heard about the plug issue. Will a shorter plug fix it? Our does a factory plug still work just a pita?

Re: have i struck gold???help

i got one in my garge floor out of a 98. gt40 heads are factory 93 cobra heads. gt40(p) are the revision heads..smaller valves, but more flow because the velocity is picked up. any 119.00 set of ebay headers will work (havent tried oem). the intake is also a revised cobra intake..(better flow than actual cobra). also, if explorers have 24lbs inj it's news to me. mine came wit 19's..my neighbor has a mountaineer 5.0 and it's 19's also. however, that motor with a 70ml throttle body, e-cam, and 24lb inj. is supposed to be good for 300hp@ the crank (or kinda close anyway). dont run anything larger than an e-cam (.498 lift) or .500 lift cam. the combustion chambers are smaller than e7's...and the pistons will become intimate with the valves. stay with 1.6rr or stock rockers.

also, it is way easier to convert to mass air with your existing harness and a mass air ecm than it is to convert your whole car over to wut i believe is an obd2 system.

your gt harness already has the holes blanked/empty for you to add mass air. you can use the plug and meter from the explorer if you have too.

the meter has 4wires...signal in...signal out...hot..& ground. and add a mass air pcm. believe me when i tell u that it is way easier to hook up 4 wires than to rewire the whole car.

everything your doin..i've done it.

let me know if i can be of any more assistance, and i hope my info helped.
