Suggestions on what to do to my first car

I just got a 1990 mustang gt for my first car and I would like your suggestions on some performance or visual upgrades to do to it. So far All it has is a k&n intake, we plan on getting a cam and doing some porting to the heads. Also what kind of cam will get me around 300 horsepower with the upgrades I have.

Re: Suggestions on what to do to my first car

Welcome! Also you can utilize the search function. There is a lot of info on this site about first mods etc.
Gears are a great first mod, as MC770 said. CAI and exhaust are also great starting points!
Great looking Fox too btw!

I guess it didn't have wires on it. Gotta give him credit for that at least.

It's so much more fun to trample on someone elses thread though. By the way tsl8320: I really do like your ride. First mod I would do is get a flat top.

IMHO subframe connectors and 3G alternator upgrade. These two things will start a solid base for future upgrades. They may not be the most obvious appearance wise but they make all the difference in the world when you start adding suspension, stereos and power adders. Just a side note on the subframe connectors. Get the weld in ones, many companies offer them. Find a local shop to weld them or do it yourself. Make sure the battery is disconnected too when welding. Since you have a vert you are already behind the game as far as rigidity in you car, more so than coupes or hatches. Good luck and yes I have both on my car and they are WELL worth the investment.

Superchargers are easy and reliable. U can use any exhaust kit u like and heat is not as much of an issue. If u want to be different and difficult then go turbo. I prefer easy hp.

Great choice for a first car. Before you do any performance upgrade I suggest driving lessons. These are very powerful cars and you can easily lose control. I am not preaching and honestly you will thank me if you do it. Then you will be able to make that car to some really amazing things. Back to topic gears and a dyno tune because your car is obd-1 a tuner doesn't work for you. Learn to control the ponies you got before adding anymore. Nice car. There is a soft spot in my heart for foxes. Enjoy you great ride

Best first mods:
Exhaust
3.73 gears
Intake
If it's an auto get a stall
If a 5 speed get a good shifter

These are some of the best bang for the buck mods that you can feel.

Re: Suggestions on what to do to my first car

Gears, exhaust and shifter (assuming you've got a T-5) should pretty much always be the first mods to an otherwise stock 5.0.

And by exhaust, I mean mid pipe back. The stock headers are fine until you start changing heads, cam and intake. Unless you just want something shiny under the hood.
