Tranny gone did use the 2.3 trans on my v8 n likd the gear ratio but now wat to do?

i had a t5 tranny out of a four cyclinder mustang with a steep ratio and a 373 on my car, ended up tearing the tranny up not cause of the pilot bearing did resurch on that and got all that right before i installed it cause i know the shafts were diffrent and i knew it was gonna happen eventually ... it had like a 3.94 first gear in it now i am getting a ford motorsport from summit with the 2.94 and was woundering how it was gonna hurt tha nice pick up and go i had with that tranny cause i herd that with the steep ratio it make it seem like 4.10s or higher?? ne advice? i want that same power do i rebuild the 4 cyclinder one?? or do i just go with the ford motorsports one i orderd should have done my resurch before i bought it thanx

ow yeah and if i was to keep the tranny i orderd i was thinkin of getting 4.30s instead of the 4.10 but dont want to murder my bottom end and my gas is that a definate ?? ne one have 4.30s?

does the t-5 have that quick pick up i know that ratio was only used in the 81 to 82 year models and then the changed to the upper 3 ratios in all the others except for the svos how much of a diffrence does that 1.00 make on take off?? cause imma miss buriing them off threw forth lol and barkin 5th

What engine are you running. Sounds like you've got a lot if you're thinking 430 gears.

its a 302 i think i bought and "" its mean"" i know it has Gt40p heads and a f303 cam 75mm accufab throttle body and a cool air intake and running nothing but the altinator and water pump but i have had it long enough to get down in it to see if it bored over or stroked out but it has some serious power leading me to believe that it has bottom end work in it cause it goes.. full exaust with the 3 inch dumps off the flowmasters.. but whats kinda wierd is i know it has bottom end work done because it used to have a supercharger on it cause the gauge is still there and the hole you have to fab in the side of the engine housein is still there so i guess he parted most of the supercharger stuff out before he got rid of it ..

430 is gonna kill your mile an hour. You'll be in 5th at the traps. Too much shifting in my opinion. I would be running 390 on a 302 and try and finish at the top of 4th. My 5.0 was at the top of 4th with 373.

That, and if you reuse the 4 cyl trans, it will definitely be too much. My vert is a manual swap with the 4cyl trans in it, and I'll tell you this, nice 5th gear on the highway, but I hardly ever use first gear. Second is low geared enough to take off in reliably.
Not sure how much different 3rd and 4th are between the two, but if they are shorter than the V8 trans, I'd stick with 3.73 or 3.90's.
I have 3.73's in mine, and I like em.

ow i was talkin about rear end 4.30 do they make a 3.90 rear end for 8.8?? or were you talkin about tranny ratios cause that 4 cyclinder tranny was real steep it was 3.97 first and 2.34 on second. 1.46 on third and 1.00 in forth thats wat im gonna miss that real steep tourky power!! so you dont think if i get this t5 world class with the 2.94 low gear and change the rear end to a 4.30 i would get that back cause i used to have a 93 mustang with a 373 and it just didnt do much for me i want the wheels to pop up ya know lol cause they almost did with that tranny set up i had!

They do make a set of 3.90's for the 8.8. Replacing just the first gear is going to throw second off. What I mean by that, is once you shift into second, you are going to have to go pettty much immediately into third because the ratio is so close.

Honestly, if you're gonna race it any, 430 sounds like a lot. You're gonna be in 5th with whatever trans and shifting 4 times in the 1/4 takes some time away. If it's full race with tubbs and tall tires maybe.

ahhh i c ok so i could probably get some of that torquey power back by changing my 373 rear end gear to the 3.90 i just found in summit racing dang they the most expensive lol , i remeber having a 4.10 gear and if i remember correctly it in 5th tacked around 3000 rpm and only did about 125 max lol.

Also try Latemodel Restortion Supply. I always found Summit to be a bit higher than the rest.

thanx guys ill c what happends i might just rebuild the old 2.3 tranny and leave the 373 gear in there and use the t5 wc i orderd as a back up, if not imma order the 3.90 and see what kinda power i can get outta it cause i want this thing to pull the front end up off the ground lol , i have had a ot of Tangs and this one imma try to powerhouse it but do it the right way and resurch first thanx again

125 in the 1/4 is not bad. Hell that's what in shooting for. Being in 5th is not good though. You gotta be able to shift like a pro to do any good with that.

I'm a pretty good shifter myself. I pride myself at my abilities in a car. Hell, the only thing I'm good at is driving and jerry rigging.

if your the king of jerry rigging the i am a close runner up lol i had aot of things i had to do to get that tranny to work and if wasnt for my slaming the gears around it probably would have lasted but what can i say ... my car she likes to go fast!! ricky bobby fast
