1985 T Top Stang

Looking into this, working on convincing my dad to go for it:

This is a 1985 T-top 5.0 that is listed for 1500 that comes with two motors and two transmissions and other extras that the guy did not list but said he had some.

Re: 1985 T Top Stang

Looks like some discoloring or rust there on the top between the T-Top glass. Check in the valleys when you pull off the glass. Other than the normal check for this and that, you can't go wrong with a T-Top car imo

Re: 1985 T Top Stang

Correct, didn't even notice the rust good catch. We will be repainting it if I get it. Hopefully it's not a POS we have to drive 2hrs just to see it

Always good to have someone look that doesn't want the thing REALLY bad. I know I overlook stuff when its something I really want.

Yup me and my dad are looking and he's had his fair share of impulse buys so he is going to really look the thing over

Keep the vert and do the swap. You will enjoy it more.

Re: 1985 T Top Stang

I'm really not diggin the vert too noisy inside, plus its an auto and the t-top is rarer has a 5spd and would be a nice project.

Yeah, if you don't like the noise, a V8 with flowmasters would bother you more. Put that ***** on Craigslist as soon as you figure out if you are getting the Ttop car. Hopefully its just some surface rust and not cancerous, but you could always have a new roof welded on.
A V8 stick car is a way different animal than you are used to, I promise you will like it more.
Make sure you check the underbody, and mainly the torque boxes. If they are rusted, leave it sitting where you found it.
If you do get it, spend some money on subframe connectors as your first mod. Ttop cars aren't as bad as verts, but still more flimsy than a hardtop. I still need to get my subframe connectors I bought for my vert welded in lol.

Re: 1985 T Top Stang

Yeah, deff check for the under body rust. And I got the v8 with stick down. My dad let me drive his 08 5spd can't wait to have one of my own. Would be even cooler if it was a t-top seeing as these are some of my favorite foxes.

Yeah, I'm not too big on the Ttops myself, they look better on the old Camaros. I like the sunroof cars though. I drove the Cobra with the roof out, it wasn't bad, but didn't have **** on the Vert. I like the wind in my hair.

Re: 1985 T Top Stang

First time we dropped the top in my vert on the highway I got hit in the neck with a rock from somones tire. I think it was an omen. Not sure why but I like the t-top ones a lot for some reason. Can't stand the dash though

Here is what I did with mine. And like I said, you can swap them out for the later one. If you do the swap though, change the heater core while you got the dash off, trust me.

Re: 1985 T Top Stang

I guess the dash isn't really that bad. But I just like the ones from 87 and up a lot more. Seems to be more trouble than it's really worth though. May as well do it any way Yours looks good by the way

Thanks. New wheel and made the holder for the gauges. I like to customise things.
I can agree on the other dash looking better though.

Here's my take on t tops. They're rare, but they leak. Don't like em. Also don't like the 4 eyed foxes either. But do what you can.

And t-tops are f-ing awesome. Sometimes leak but new weatherstripping will fix that. I hope it works out and it's in good shape. But for 1500 including an *** load of parts tells me it's someones failed project.glwp
