car problem

My mustang will break up real bad over 2400 rpm for the first 4-5 miles and smell like it's running rich than starts running fine. If I'm not moving with no load on the car it revs fine. Any ideas? Money is tight so I would like some ideas before I start trying to fix it

Re: car problem

A $12 fuel filter might be a good idea.

Re: car problem

Old plugs can run rough when first starting, but we are talking really high mileage plugs... If it has been awhile, you might want to change your plugs, another cheap fix...

Re: car problem

Check ur spark plugs for condition and gapping.Check all emission system components for vacuum leaks. All intake too.See if PCV valve is sticking or stuck if so change it .Test for faulty or weak ignition coil, components. Is fuel pump old? Problem could be there too, inside fuel tank.Has ignition timing been messed with? check. Good luck! hope this helps you budd.Aloha from Hawaii! Blustreek aka Dean.

If there is no codes. Chances are it's fuel or fire. Fuel filter in the morning. First step.

Take a pic of that ignition system too. Might be that. Pop the dist. cap loose and look under it too. Check for moisture and any tracing.

Re: car problem

I just noticed another thing could be acting up in ur ignition system. It could also be tied to a faulty MSD ign.box, harnemss or bad grounding circuit.Remember ur MSD is a spark enhancer or spark databank,Signal amplifier.A series of weak sparks can cause break up.
