Trans noise

Hi everyone. I have an issue with my 89 gt. It has a 3550 box in it. Everytime I cruise between 70-75 there is this horrific whine coming from the trans. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It does not whine like that at any other speed and that is in 5th.

Re: Trans noise

When was the last time you serviced ur transmission fluid? Try draining old fluid out completely and pump in fresh tranny fluid specified for that standard trans. Do you know for sure it's coming from ur trans. and not anywhere else in ur drive line like ur U-joint or ring and pinion in the rearend? Only in 5th gear would mean Overdrive, gear might be worned out,too far a gap between can give play and humm and whine.

Re: Trans noise

part of it is the shifter transferring the noise probably you can put some dynomat around the shifter base to try and get rid of a little of it.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. It is probably do for a fluid change. I'll also look to put some matting there to cut down on road noise
