Re: electrical problem??

Yeah, could be the switch or the relay going bad for them. Not sure there has been, but you may want to check with Ford and see if there's been a recall for that... that way you wouldn't have to come out of pocket for it.... it's worth a shot.

Re: electrical problem??

didn't see anything about the wipers but did find this

Recall Summary
THE IGNITION SWITCH COULD EXPERIENCE AN INTERNAL SHORT CIRCUIT.

Consequence
THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE OVERHEATING, SMOKE, AND POSSIBLY FIRE IN THE STEERING COLUMN AREA OF THE VEHICLE.

Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH.

how do i find out if this has been changed?

pretty sure that recall was for the ranger pickups only. but to be sure you can call your local dealership, with the vin, to see if you have any recalls

Re: electrical problem??

ok so the switch is one of the recalls for an 88 fox. but dont think that is related to your issue. but just to check if its been done just get the vin number

no such thing as too late. i worked for Mazda as a servce writer back in 07. had a 87 mazda 323 come in for a seat belt recall. hell a couple years ago over here at nissan we had a 87 300zx come in for a fuel injector recall. had to piece the kit together cause the recall kit was no longer made.

maybe remove the switch and see if there is any frayed wires. it maybe the switch is worn out and can no longer change positions. it happens! list on the oem part is about $76. i can shoot you an employee price as soon as my damn system decides to work again. my damn sales and inventory system has been down since we opened .

Re: electrical problem??

I'm willing to bet that it is the switch for your wipers messing up.

If they don't check your wipers at the inspection you could just disconnect the motors so they don't come on in the middle of inspection.

Re: electrical problem??

Check to be sure it's not a control module issue cause modules can do funky things like that too besides a switch or a grounded harness.Has ur clock spring been replaced? Check that too.Happy Hunting!
