Auto's can handle some pretty big power. Now, I'm not an auto guy, so don't read too far into what I'm saying, but check some websites for a built C4 or C6 trans.

My friend chad has an 86 fox converted to mass air,gt 40 heads punched out .030. Over 400 rwhp on a stock aode tranny. He drags races every weekend at the track and countless street races. With no tranny issues at all.

Hey new to the forums here. What I did with mine was a shift kit and a torque converter. I don't think their bullet proof.

But I heard people swapping for the 2003 auto I think from the v6's. And they hold up pretty good.

The weakest link will always be the first to go, I have torn up aods with cam and bolt on cars but have seen them takes years of abuse on hci cars and hold up, your best bet is a c4 or even glide if it don't see alot of highway, but run it till it goes out, but back to the weakest link subject it could last a couple years on highway or two passes if u try to run slicks and and roast em at the track

they make aod..aode..and g.m. trannys as well. my aod is rated for 700hp. i have a 2400 stall on it, and it is an absolute nasty beasty *** trans. it's been in my car for 3yrs with bolt ons and a blower. it's manual/auto shift valve body, kevlar clutches, upgrade reverse drum, upgrade sprag.. lotsa stuff. u get a warranty, and ppl willing to still talk to u 36 months after intial purchase.

i think they have prices from 12-1800

it means u can put it in drive/overdrive and it will shift itself. or u can shift it manualy and it will hold the gear it's in, also u wont hurt it doing prolonged manual shifting like u will with a stock aod. a long time ago, when u bought a manual shift valve body for an auto..u had to manualy shift it all the time (upshift and downshift) and you didnt have the option of the trans shifting by itself.

u can do aod or aod(e) for your car. i would suggest you do an aode. you would have to ad a t.v. cable to run an aod which would require modifying your throttle bracket.

the advantage of an aod is the predictability and consitency in shifting. the computer plays no part in the trannys operation unlike the aode.

again, i would suggest u put in wut came out for simplicity of install (the aode). talk to the ppl at trans depot and they can help point u in the right direction. i believe they are out of lakeland, fl. also there is a company called "road runner converters" out of pheonix, az. i deal with that makes really nice stall converters... lock-up and non lock up for aode and aod
