T5 issues

So I took my car about 6 months ago to the track and ran a 13.9 after smoking the tires on the line toasting my tranny and blowing a head gasket....hahaha yea alot for one night...any how got it home in 4th gear dropped the trans and found out the input shaft cracked 3 teeth. According to the numbers on the input shaft the trans was a 4 banger. So I bought a t5 from this guy that does rebuilds for a living and got a good deal on it. He said this trans was all rebuilt and with hardend gears and ford racing synchros plus rebuild kit. Any how put it on and ran real smooth. For some reason that night I decided to beat it up a little to show it off with a buddy of mine. Next day it started to grind a little going into 1st and 2nd . I could not believe that the trans was going out or that I broke it already. Ive replaced the cluth, flywheel, cable, quad and bearing and still does it and it's been 6 months. Has not gotten worse. I put some lucus oil additive and it shifts better but still grinds in those gears. Sounds like when im stopping the gears or something is still spinning

Jeebus man, 5.0s are tanks, how do you blow a head gasket just at the track? have you never floored the car before? lol anyhow..

4 banger trans should have been ok.. I've seen people use it due to different gear ratios? or something along those lines

Try running a different fluid, not just an additive

Do you have a short throw shifter? Make sure the adjustment screws are adjusted properly and you can't pull it too far/ you're not keeping it from fully engaging

Yea ive seen alot of guys do the 4 banger too it's crazy but I'm running over 320hp now and back then I had a supercharger which is why I blew both. I had a feeling the gasket was going but there were no obvious signs until I actually blew it. Any how what kind of fluid you recommend. I got royal purple in it now with lucus oil additive. What screw your talking about... My fire wall adjuster is very snug can't even move the cable. My short throw shifter screws are set back enough only as far as the shifter goes.

Re: T5 issues

It sounds like trannys are just not your friend and you keep beating them up LOL.

It sould like its just another bad trans to be honest if your stop bolts are set back all the way on the shifter also.

Re: T5 issues

I beat the hell out of the 4cyl trans in my '86 Vert. The T5 behind my 347 in my '85 though, I lost second gear syncros. A bit of a power difference for sure, but sometimes they hold, sometimes they don't.
If you want to put serious power down, go with a TKO500 or 600 and you'll be banging gears with no problems. I went with the TKO600 in my '85 and it held everything I threw at it.

A quick comment about Lucas additives though, JUNK, IMO. All it is, is gear oil and soap. I wouldn't put it in my lawnmower.....

Thanks for the suggestions. Just funny how I beat it one night and it's done but oh well. I still drive it it's just annoying and it grinds in. seems like its still rotating inside cause if I hold the clutch in long enough it lets me in smooth. 3 & 4 dont do it at all it's super smooth. Currently I added royal purple thinking it would help but nothing. Read in a thread about the lucus oil and it seems to shift alot smoother but still grinds
