Re: My official 5.0 swap thread

im work'n on my swap as we speak 96v6 to 5.0 efi. i gotta get a cam. perhaps i can start a competing thread...lol.

btw, your gonna need a throttle cable and (cruise cable optional)..... also you're gonna have to fab up sum fuel line extensions cause the fuel lines are on the opposite side and a bit short. just thought i would add that cause i didnt see it on your list.

Hmm, forgot to put the fuel cable on the eBay list. Fuel lines may get bought new, or if I can find the write up again on how to flip the stockers to the other side I will try that first.

just unbolt the lines from the hangers underneath, and slowly bend them over to the left side of the car. however, u will still be bout 15-24" short (from fender to fuel rail). u should be able to find sum short lenghts at the junk yard to compensate.

u can get the throttle cable and pcm from lincoln mark 7 if u cant find any v8 stangs at a junk yard, and prolly the fuel line as well.

2000-up taurus have 24lbs injectors also if u need sum cheap ones.

The motor came complete with injectors and all that. This is how the motor sits right now:

I just need to get this damn bracket off the cobra so I can swap out my lower pulley and start driving it again so I can pull the motor in the fox. 2 Allen bolts completely rounded out...Ugh.

And so it begins. Pulled
Out the interior today. Floors are shockingly clean. I expected some Rust issues for sure.

Dome for the day due to feeling super nauseous.

Ok, gave the carpet a quick wash. Didn't do too thorough of a job as it needs replacing down the road due to sun bleaching.

Here's a before and after. I'll get a better after when it's dry. It's hanging up at the moment.

The after is the passenger side.

This sounds like it's going to be awesome when it's finished. Any progress? Your car will probably be a LOT cleaner than mine when it's completed.

None...getting married next weekend...so, the project has been on a temporary hiatus until the wedding is paid for and we get back from the honeymoon (vegas). Then, it'll be time to get some work done. I have a majority of the parts ready...just need to time and non-100* weather to get it done....november should be a productive month.

Re: My official 5.0 swap thread

Well, the process to pull the motor has officially begun. I don't have any pictures right now as I ran out of light, but, I'll update with them tomorrow when I snap some. Hoping to have everything disconnected this weekend and the motor ready to pull once I rent a picker.

Today was:

Removed radiator
Removed Battery and Tray
Disconnected the engine harness (all but one plug I couldn't see where it went due to low light)

Next up is to disconnect everything from the trans, pull the trans, disconnect the rest of the cooling system hoses, and unhook the AC. Probably won't be able to touch it tomorrow due to going out of town for new years...but hopefully sunday if I'm not too hung over.

I just subscribed but I was thinking about slowly starting to do one of these projects myself. Is there anywhere that I can go (online) to pull up like a guide or something? I know car basics but I'm trying to learn as much as possible and a project like this seems like a great way to learn everything. This would be my first major car project, any thoughts/help would be greatly appriciated. Not trying to jack your tread man lol

Re: My official 5.0 swap thread

There are several swap guides out there. I forgot which sites I read them on now, but if you search for 5.0 swap you'll see a number of them. We need something like that on here as well. I'm going to try and document the process as best I can and with which parts I had to update and what not.

Re: My official 5.0 swap thread

Managed to get a couple hours of work in this morning. Pulled out the AC, power steering, remaining vacuum and cooling lines, and pulled out the main wiring harness. Happy new year everyone.

Also, updated the first post with a link to the full album of progress. It will have all the pics I post here and maybe extras as I probably won't post all of the pics here.

Here are the pics of yesterday and today's progress.

I wish we were closer. I was eyeballin' that 2.3 you're pulling and my Ford utility tractor.
I believe with the engine, harness and computer I could make it work.

Thank You! I've been wanting to do a road trip.
The wife loves to travel, so if I get healed up enough to where I can travel again before too much longer, we might just do that.

Re: My official 5.0 swap thread

not to steal your thread but i swapped a 4 for a nasty 347 stroker with e303 cam n 30# injectors.had to change body harness to, may have been because my body is a 88 vert. but i have swapped a 32 valve 96 cobra motor into a 92 hatch but it does not run yet, need to figure out why not getting coil pack signal

Hit a patch of quick sand known as life. Motor is about ready to go in...a bunch of small hiccups have changed my plans with the car. Now the goal is just to get the motor in and running so I can stop driving the cobra daily.
