Re: engines that fit into 94 gt conv

Assuming you have a 5.0 in your '94 then no, definitely not the same thing. Two completely different animals.
I'm really surprised you can't find another 5.0 around you for cheap. I can usually come across them for $500 or less all day long where I am.

Re: engines that fit into 94 gt conv

the only thing easy you can stick in there is another 5.0... that would be easy to install. lightening wont work, nothing 4.6 mod motor based will work. sounds like you need to keep looking. evrything else would cause u to have the change the wiring harness and k-member. did u try to find a 5.0 out of a truck or van? they would work also (but must be a 5.0) all you would have to do is change the intake and maybe the oil pan, if you cant find a 5.0 outa a stang. you could also use a lincoln mark 7 or a crown vic.

So does the 5.0 explorer engine drop right in? If not what do I all need from the donor explorer?

if u cant look at it and know what needs swapped.... you prolly dont need to do the swap (have someone do it for u). it's pretty straight forward.

Wow I see a ton of 5.0 motors around here for saleand even some built short blocks for the price you are getting on a stock block.

I would say keep look and check craigs list I seem to have a lot of good luck with that once you sort out the scams of course.

i wasnt tryn to be mean, i was just being honest. all he needs are fresh gaskets, and transfer the stuff from the stang block to the explorer block, he doesnt have to buy anything really. hence, if u cant look at it and know what it needs... u prolly shouldnt be doint it.

i realize ive been a prick today, but this wasnt one of those times...

he's gonna need to swap intake (im pretty sure).. remove the cam sensor and install the dizzy... swap oil pans, and swap timing cover. if your motor is stock, just run the cam and heads on the explorer, your better of.

the main thing u will need is a engine rebuild gasket kit. i know im forgeting something.. but u dont really need any hard parts... it's just swapping one era to the next is all....

on the up side... the explorer (most) block is the mexican block made from a magnesium alloy and is lighter than the older 100% cast iron blocks. someone else told me, and i didnt believe them till i drug both blocks across the floor.

Re: engines that fit into 94 gt conv

o yea, get sum cheap "100bucks shipped" headers from ebay to run those heads... if not, u will need to take your stang heads and put them on the explorer block. the xplorer block is equiped with gt40p heads. do yourself the favor, keep the heads and just get sum headers
