When I shift into 2nd and 4th gear, my gears scrape. I'm driving normal, shifting normal, everything. I'm guessing I need a new 2nd and 4th gear synchronizer. How much do they run?

Re: Transmission Synchronizer

not super expensive, problem is getting them installed might as well do everything. Make SURE your clutch is adjusted right, if you are pushing the petal all the way to the floor it might not be pulling enough of the cable in~

Yeah. If it wasn't adjusted right wouldn't it scrape in all gears?

If the synchros are not worn equally, then it might scrape in some gears and not others. I'd make sure the clutch was properly adjusted and the cable wasn't stretched out before I rebuilt the transmission.

Unless you want to spend about $1,800 more and pick up a tremec T-56 or V-Spec T-56, the very best trans u can stuff under a fox IMO!

+1 If money is not an issue that would be my #1 choice.

I've seen world class T5's hold up in 10sec cars. Should be fine.

But a t 56 is 1800 and the tko 500 or 600 is 2200...sooo...which is better? Money is an issue though. So what about a world class t5?

CJ ponyparts has the world class for $1296. I think maybe the 10% off and free shipping may apply also. I would just drop that in and forget about it. Anything else will cost you even more parts. Not sure if the tremec is a direct replacement.

A WC-T5 will hold up to about 300 ft lbs of torque.
Going over that rating will eventually lead to failure.
How quickly, would be determined on how hard and how often you beat on it.
I have one in my car, which has a bit over 300 ft lbs of torque at the crankshaft and it has held up fine for a number of years.
However, knowing its limitations I don't beat on it very often or very hard.

Okay. I'll have 1500-2000 to play with. But not wanting to put it all into a transmission. Nothings wrong with it now besides the synchronizers. Might as well just put a different transmission in it when I decide to fix it

Yep. The 3650 and the T56 are not very strong. Trust me, I've rebuilt quite a few t56's. I've got a buddy who's 5.0 went through 1 n2o motor and 3 more blower motors on a stock T5 and never wrecked the trans. Also barely ever used the clutch. Sold the car with a blown motor and a 150k mile stock t5 still working great.

The Borg Warner T5 is the Tremec T5. They sold the design to Tremec a long while back.

Here's everything you did or maybe didn't want to know about the T5 and other Tremec transmissions. They can also rebuild yours for about half the cost of a new one.
