Explorer intake?

Is anyone out there running an explorer intake? Are the worth the $150-$250 that they are going for? What are the pros and cons?

Re: Explorer intake?

Pros = Better air flow
Cons = Need to find a mustang intake plaque for it if it doesn't already have one...or you could just run it plaque-less.

They are worth it. Search GT40 on this site or GT-40 and you will see several threads talking about them. Or just browse this forum section as we have had 2 threads about it recently.

40 bucks at a u-pull junk yard....... Don't be lazy and get one...... I prefer to see the vehicle I pull parts from and not just buy one that has been spit shined to sparkle

Re: Explorer intake?

Much better than the stock intake. Best bang for the buck available.

No I got em from a guy that totaled his stang. I would have spent about 150 for them at the yard but the only 5.0 was stripped. He did upgrade the springs for the cam he was going to use so I think I made out like a bandit.

Re: Explorer intake?

Pro's - Cheap at bone yards , its the same intake as the Cobra , same runners ,same flow
just not as perty worth a good 15 + hp on a stock 5.0 ,more if you have other work done to it .........
Con's - can't think of one ......

Another pro, well atleast for me: it adds to the sleeper value because you can put the H.O. plaque on it and it looks factory

It's really not different in size than the stocker...it just has better runners and flow.

Re: Explorer intake?

If you want to talk about the flow, I think it falls somewhere between Cobra intake and GT40

I have a 86 5.0 coupe. Would gt40 heads and intake bolt up? Or would I have problems?

You will have to notch your pistons for the heads, but the intake will bolt up.

That's what I thought. How much would that cost? Having them notched I mean.

I would call a machine shop to find out, it may be more cost effective to buy new pistons.
