Mustang 5.0 HP ratings

I know the 87-93 model 5.0 had somewhere around 235 hp and that the 85-92 mustangs came stock with forged internals. But I've got an early 80s model 5.0, probably 81-85 so I was wondering what's the specs for one of those motors.

When people say stock hp numbers, they are talking flywheel right? Then you subtract roughly 15% from that to get rear wheel? Just wanting to know for myself.

Re: Mustang 5.0 HP ratings

From what I have read.......The H.O. motor had forged pistons from 85-92. Non-H.O. motors were sand cast. Hypereutectics show up in 93.

They had 225 untill 92. 93 had 205 due from changing pistons. And yes it's at flywheel. A general rule can be 15% but autos take alot more away than a manual car does

They had 205 mostly due to the change in how they dynoed the motor. In 93 they dynoed it with all the accessories on the motor.

So I'm guessing I started out with about 175. Little bit disappointing but oh well. Atleast it's not stock. Lol

You can tell a difference driving a 92 or 93. It's more less a paper difference. That and the pistons are not forged on 93 so I wouldnt spray it as much lol. But I've rocked a cammed 93 for a while
