Maybe, what is the code?
And, year of your car?

It's a 94. Not sure the actual number for the code but last time I check it read for " secondary air injection" I'll try to look it up or bring it tomorrow for the code #

The Secondary Air Injection is composed of the emissions system parts that pump clean air/oxygen into the exhaust of a vehicle to help lower emissions. I.E. smog pump, thermactor valve, etc.
The oxygen helps to heat the catalytic converter to temperatures suitable for burning off the harmful emission gases.

Get the code so we can be sure that is what you are having problems with.

I wasn't belittling or poking fun at your post. Just commenting with an old saying I have heard and read hundreds of times.

Well I don't think I'll be able to check the codes now since I upped the timing to about 11adv. From being at 7 took it for a drive and the belt came off so I'm sitting waiting for a tow truck

Unless I'll still be able to do the self check for the codes

Re: Just ordered some BBK Longtubes and BBK O/R H-pipe

Screw these headers and this O/R H-pipe. Literally took all night to do it, the headers didnt want to line up to the mid-pipe and the bolts connecting to the power tubes werent long enough. Such a pain in the ***... now im just deciding if the sound was worth it

Re: Just ordered some BBK Longtubes and BBK O/R H-pipe

I just want to call BBK and tell them that there product is ****! lol, that the instructions are ****. I was going to do a write up on how to install these but now my advice officially is, dont do it at all.

I could just go on all day on how "fun" it was to install lol.

Re: Just ordered some BBK Longtubes and BBK O/R H-pipe

all the bolts were fine except for the mid-pipe to power tubes. Had to pull the passenger valve cover, throttle body, all the egr stuff on that side of the engine and loosened the motor mount almost all the way. I had the car about 22 inches off the ground on the front and scratching bumper in the back.

I guess looking back it wasnt THAT bad, and the drivers side was SUPER easy. I guess it could've been ALOT worse.

I had to go the exact same thing lol. That's why people don't put long tubes on while the motor is already in. But it's worth the sound and 20 to 30 rwhp gain

Even though these are "matched parts" they don't perfectly line up. I will be giving them a 3/5 rating due to inaccurate instructions, not recommending o2 extenders, and not lining up perfectly as they were promised.

However, the shipping from American muscle was completely dependable as always, I knew the exact day they would get here before I got the tracking number. They DID NOT need to have machining done on the primaries. The chrome finish was top notch and didn't scratch during installation. Finally, after calming down from a hellish night installing these, I've decided they are worth in the end.

I didn't do the write up, however if anyone has any questions about the install, don't hesitate to ask!

Cheers!

Re: Just ordered some BBK Longtubes and BBK O/R H-pipe

Here is what the MM&FF article said about timing:

Quote:
Turbo motors require a richer mixture and less total ignition timing than their
normally aspirated counterparts.Where the NA engine might run best
with 35 degrees of timing at an air/ fuel mixture of 13.0:1, the turbo motor
will require timing levels below 22 degrees and a richer air/fuel ratio
near 11.5:1. Pump-gas tuning may be even more conservative.
Note: They are talking about the "Total Timing"

I don't know that the longtubes are louder, but they are more efficient at removing the exhaust gasses and help you make more power.

yeah I finished hooking up the rest of the exhaust so now it goes like this.

motor, longtubes, O/R H-pipe, custom power tubes to fit into the dynomax turbo mufflers exiting out the stock location in the back.

it F$%^ing sounds like it did with the stock shortys and all 4 cats...

It's the mufflers.
I can't help it, but to me nothing sounds better than the flowmasters.

Get us a sound file?

Will try, I don't have a really good camera, I'll see if I can pester texastboneking for some assistance. Probably going to have to stick the mic pickup into the damn exhaust just so you can hear it.

As far as the mufflers go, I'm thinking about maybe some slp lm1s... Maybe flows but I just dont know
