My check engine light doesnt show anywhere when I turn to acc...? There is a light that reads "check engine" right? To pass smog it's suppose to go on and then go off when the car starts. If it's burnt out where is it suppose to be?
Should be directly under where it says unleaded on your instrument cluster. At least that's where it is on my 92. If it's not there then take a flash light and point it at the instrument cluster you'll be able to read the embossed lettering of "check engine". To change the bulb you'll need to remove instrument cluster to change it.
I can see a plastic piece connected to the metal pin on the back of the gauges but there's no clips. It turns slightly but doesn't come off and I don't want to muscle it out unless I'm sure thats what to do
To replace that bulb you really should not have to remove the speedo cable. The cluster should come out enough to give the bulb holder a quarter turn and it should pull out. But all things in the mustang world can be different.
Thanks, I had barely any slack in the speedo cable (gauge cluster only moved an inch off the dash) so I had to take it off to even fit my hand behind there. I was barely able to reach around from underneath to disconnect it. Thanks for the responses
